Getting Two Kittens

I want to get two kittens at the same time so that they will become good buddies for each other. Is it best to get two kittens of the same sex or two different sexes?

Are you talking about two kittens from the same litter or two kittens from different litters/breeders? I assume you are intending on having these cats neutered too. Providing the cats are neutered, it shouldn't make any difference whether you get two of the same sex or one of each. I have to say, though, that I have found that two neutered males get along better together than two spayed females do. In my experience, female MCs are wonderful but do seem to have more of an "attitude" than the fixed males! However, I think you have to remember that two kittens from the same or different litters cannot be predicted to become buddies or be enemies. Just like in families, sometimes we hate our brothers or sisters and like strangers more....or we love our families above all others. If you bring kittens from the same litter you won't have to get them used to each other first. If you bring two kittens from two different places, you will have to get them used to each other (more info on how to do that if you write me privately, if you like).

If getting two from the same litter, I would go for a brother and sister. We have recently (sept-99) acquired pedigree maine's in the UK from a very reputable breeder, and they are brother and sister, and they get along brilliantly, both have completely different personalities which compliment them both. The female is extremely affectionate, and the male is really just an idiot, but when he wants affection he's so cute. They are now almost 7 months old, she is 8 pounds in weight and the boy almost 11 and growing daily.
