Leno: L.A. Y2K Celebration a Flop

.c The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jay Leno, who pulled a switch to light up the Hollywood sign during L.A.'s millennial celebration, says Tinseltown's big moment was a flop.

The New Year's Eve finale that lit the sign with neon-colored strobe lights was ``ridiculous,'' the NBC ``Tonight Show'' host said during Monday's show.

``What did we have?'' Leno asked the audience. ``Ten floodlights from Home Depot ... I've seen bug zappers do better shows.''

Leno gave a parody re-creation by training two flashlights on a small model of the sign.

``New Year's Eve is ancient history at this point,'' Deputy Mayor Noelia Rodriguez responded Thursday. ``Let's move on.''
