Ed Yourdon - You DON'T need to apologize!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Ed - please, you don't need to apologize. I just skimmed your article and am printing it now to read. But, the people criticizing you are primarily people who really don't know what you said and people that never even read your book. They are just spammers and polly-come-latelys. As usual, most people who are supportive of you, don't say much - are quiet in the background.

We all did the best we could do with the information we had. Those of us who read thousands of documents and government reports went off in the same direction as you did with your computer expertise, including local governments!

It is just too bizarre. Sheri, Western Nevada County Y2K Prepardness Network

Nor will he acknowledge or accept one. Followed him from the beginning (and still do) and he takes offense at being kidded...seems HE'S getting a little "thin-skinned"

Thanks Ed for all your efforts. Your book has changed my life for the better and I will never again be without adequate security for my family.

Ed: I appreciate all the efforts that you and Jennifer have expended on alerting the public to the potential of y2k. Your courteous manner and style of writing is an example that is admired greatly by most, I am sure. It is difficult to believe those hateful messages you have received (mentioned in your most recent essay).. weak-kneed, whining wimps....just incredible. Thanks again, and the best to you and yours!!!

Ed We are all in the same boat here, there indeed is no reason to apoligize. There are indeed problems and they are building.Myself and my family are prepared for whatever may come.As I have said before THANK YOU Dave

They say that economists are paid twice -- once to tell you what will happen, and again to tell you why it didn't.

Yourdon was paid once to tell us what would happen. I'd be most interested in reading his explanation of why it didn't. I might even be willing to pay for it. Yourdon still has his intelligence, his insights, his many contacts, and a very readable writing style. I wouldn't believe anyone who told me Yourdon hasn't puzzled over what we've seen, grapelling with possible explanations. I hope we see them.

Flint

Have you puzzled over this outcome. If you have a reasonable explanation, I would like to hear it. Seriously now, without laying blame, explain it to me.

I've listened before the rollover to your accessments. Give it a GO.

I,m listening!

Ed, your essay is very well thought out and brilliantly presented. How could anyone argue with that? (My only complaint is that the P- words could have been substituted with something less offensive to ladies who grew up in a generation where that kind of language was not spoken. That will never be accceptable to me, tho I understand the language has become much more vulgar, these days.) Other than that minor complaint about your essay, yes, I very much respect you. In fact, of all the Y2K beacons, you deserve the most respect, in my opinion. You were not the fire and brimstone type of preacher, but gave a very careful analysis of the situation, leaving the readers to decide if to prepare, and for how long.

If it hadn't been for you and Gary, I wouldn't have made my preps....even tho we haven't needed them, YET, it's a secure feeling to know I'm ready for almost anything. And with the price of food going up, my stash is like money in the bank.

In my book, you're tops....include your daughter, too! I'm sorry you're taking so much guff from the scruff. That has to hurt, after all the hard work and time you have devoted to this effort. I am sure that most of us, in this forum feel indebted to you and feel some of your pain. We love you and stand by you!

You have my respect.
