What is the sound of a Polly eating Crow?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've been eating crow since the rollover by the fistful. I admit it freely, I judged the embedded system/chip situation to sharply and blew it. I thought there would be more problems.

However, that being said I'm starting to wonder if all is really well in refinery land and if it's gonna stay that way. Or if the chips will fall where they may, WHEN THEY MAY.

In any event, I had a major Polly admit to me today that he heard from a reliable source (if you don't believe me, I don't care) who told him that a specific refinery problem in PADD III is the result of "some kind of computer screw up". Shoulda seen the look on his face. You pollies should tone it down just a bit. I promise not to gloat to much, but I think some things are comming off the wheels out there and the problem is no one is watching. That's a mistake.

PS-strange futures market today. news about alaska brought a brief rally on crude, turned out to be false. funny thing when I went to check iton the net, the earthquake server i usually check hadn't updated since the 31st of Dec. You pollies should tone it down a bit. It ain't over.

Simple: "This is not crow! *munch* *munch*... This is not crow! *munch* *munch*... This is not crow! *munch* *munch*..."

(The "This is NOT a Y2K problem!" script should have tipped you off.)

Surfing site and scanning postings. Re refineries: at this time literally surrounded by petrochems. Just had alert test-first one in long time. Hate the sound of those sirens. Gentleman, all may not be well.

Kurt:

Good to see you're around, saw your post to me the other day. What's happening in your neck of the woods? I see from your e-mail address you work for some gov agency in BC. Pay checks getting out ok? When are tax refunds etc. set to go out? Heard any news about the river and lake levels where hydro dams are located up there? If not any way for you to find out?

(I presume you've seen this thread Where did all the water come from?)

Interested Spectator:

Not much is happening up here...except 4 days of mod-heavy snowfall ...this is getting ridiculous!

The only recorded (so far) Y2K non-compliance incident has been my firewood--TRUE! I spent all summer falling, bucking and splitting birch, aspen, spruce and pine into 18inch pieces--only to find out my stove takes 16inch pieces...

Such a cursing and swearing as would shame a sailor...my sweetie laughed so hard! So now I'm sawing EVERY piece before it goes into the stove.

Other than that, all is well with my family and me.

Williston Lake and the WAC Bennett Dam I don't currently know about and it would be a 3hr drive to find out... I'll call a Forest Service buddy in Mackenzie and ask.

Stand by to stand by...

Kurt:

Might be easier to replace the stove.
