"It's NOT Y2K RELATED you morons!"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I know that quite a few people are new to this forum, with a lot of you coming to tell us how wise you were about all of this. The fact that you didn't come here to enlighten us prior to the rollover says a lot, but hey, having been a sports enthusiast all of my life, I'm used to bandwagon jumpers and monday morning quarterbacks. People are what they are. You'll get bored and go away soon, so I'm sure not gonna get my undies in a bundle over your gloating, so have fun while you're here.

One thing you need to realize before you post, is that occasionally we post about off topic subjects. And no, we don't think they are y2k related. The post about the protest in Miami comes to mind. Believe it or not, but when the Columbine shooting happened, it was discussed a lot, and we did not think it was y2k related. Sorry to disapoint you, but it's true. As a matter of fact, I sort of expect this place to turn into a "current events" forum when y2k is over (which I think, for the record, we should know one way or the other by tax day)

Answers

Is that April 15th or 16th this year....or maybe the 14th??

The &$^#@ IRS just sent me my forms today... it's the 17th.... sigh

-- Bob (bob@bob.bob), January 06, 2000.

Thanks Bob you took the words right off my fingertips.

-- Johnny (jljtm@bellsouth.net), January 06, 2000.

Bob, I lurked here for a while and I noticed that the SysOps deleted every single post by the pollies. Maybe MIT was doing some sort of sociology experiment to see how much of a frenzy doomers could get themselves into without any words of reason.

nobody, go search the archives. Look for posts by Decker, Flint, Hoffmeister, Cherri, Maria, Wolverine and more then I can remember right now. Tell me how many of the ones that come up were deleted. My point exactly - many of the newcomers here are criticizing this place without knowing the history and background here.

-- Bob (bob@bob.bob), January 06, 2000.

We now know who it is that defines taunting, sneering, spitting-in- your-face arrogance as "words of reason".

Who is it?

Nobody, of course.

You're wrong nobody. Keep the handle.

Hi everyone...I'm a newcomer to this board, only because I had just learned about it the week after Christmas. I find your discussions to be rather insightful. Re: Y2K, I prepared for bad (not to the extent of some in this forum, or of some of my family members) but hoped for good. Last year my husband & I read as much as we could on y2k & tried to make an informed decision. I think any reasonable person would do that - research before deciding. I think it's unfair & unproductive for BOTH "sides" of this argument to be so smug in their approach, particularly the "I-told-you-so" folks. Not sure what they have to prove.

Anyway, most of you seem like nice folks. My very first post, a few days ago (asking why everyone was so insulting!), was returned with some very rude responses accusing me of whining, and I didn't write again for awhile.

I'm not sure *what* to think of the plane & train crashes. I have no clue whether they're y2k related or not, but they are tragic none-the- less. If they ARE y2k related, that would certainly be horrible.

I guess I'm rambling. It's late in the day & I felt like sharing my thoughts...

Newbie; you should be congratulated for surviving your first post. THere are many who have not. Lately it has become rather ravenous. I am one of the worst but I have an agend and you are safe from me. Everyone else here is totally objective and has no agenda so watch out for them. :)

nobody,

I've been here almost a year, just about every day. Y2K is part of my job at work, and my boss is happy that I hang out on sites like this. What I do at home is my business. The point is that I've followed this forum very closely.

The sysops here DO NOT delete the polly point of view. As Bob said, check the archives. Heck, check the current threads! What they do delete is a handful of IDIOTS that ATTACK this forum on a regular basis!!!!!!!!!! A handful of MORONS that post the same message over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and... And that's just one of their "tricks." They make this fourm impossible to use for the SEVERAL HUNDRED other people here.

Please, get your facts straight before you open your mouth. <:)=

Hey Feller!

Another old friend of the forum checks in!

So, how have you been?

And, Happy New Year! <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), January 07, 2000.

Bob, I liked your post. We do indeed do alot of off topic (OT for the newbies) here. I find many of them interesting too. Newbies, please write OT in front to distinguish them from the main threads.

Newbie, congratulations from me also for surviving your first post. Things do get quite heated here with so many folks from so many backgrounds, cultures and ideas posting. Most people are articulate and friendly...even if they don't agree with you. Unfortunately, there are some folks who are extremely obnoxious....They spam the board (spamming is when you post something over and over again so that nobody else can post or read anything else except that single message, which is usually filled with profanity, name calling, baiting, etc.). Now it isn't so much the content that gets you deleted here...though repeated vile remarks just might make the sysops hit the DELETE, but it is repeated spamming which does get you banned from here.

If you are interested, hit the "ask a question" key and you will see (in red) a list of offenders who continuously, even after warnings, spammed this board). It is not tolerated on any forum on the internet, so why in the world did they think it would be tolerated here? I don't know. We have a host of "pollies" with excellent manners who disagree with us. Some of them have already been mentioned. Ken Decker, Hoff, and flint come immediately to mind. I don't usually agree with them, but they are inoffensive in their language and posting styles. I welcome their debate.

We have a few "doomers" who also can get quite heated and nasty here. You should have seen it BEFORE Y2K! Well, welcome to all of you newbies here and keep listening. We are an eclectic bunch...and it's lots of fun.

If anyone's still reading this thread, thanks for such a warm welcome! I almost DIDN"T survive my first post, but I'm hard headed & didn't want to give up. I'm glad I came back!

See you on future threads...

-- Newbie (newcomer@this.site), January 07, 2000.

Feller! I see the NLT Log didn't ask you as to the extent of your preps! Me, neither! They couldn't afford the column space!

-- lisa (lisa@work.now), January 07, 2000.

Oh the omniscient bob god has spoken. See's all, Knows all, is all.

Feller... that would be the omniscient Mr.bob god to you....lol.

-- Bob (bob@bob.bob), January 07, 2000.

That's not the way I see it. Unless someone shows me conclusive evidence of the cause of a negative incident, verified by an independent party, I say it IS Y2K related. I can spin just as easily as the next guy. I'd rather create my own truth than listen to their lies. How do you like them cookies?
