printing pictures

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am a novice at digital cameras. All I want to do is to be able to take a picture and then send it by email or use it on my computer plus I want to be able to print it like a regular picture you get developed. I would like to be able to crop it or resize it and then print it with a small frame so it would look just like a photograph from a regular camera. Or would it be easier to just keep taking regular pictures and then scan them to get the same results. That way I would have a regular photo and then could manipulate it also. What do you think. I have a sony digital now and I can not get it to print like a regular picture. They all come out one size, in the middle of the page, and no frame.

This url at Hewlett Packard might be of interest http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpphotosma9534_swen.html this will steer you to photofinishing software that allows you to select, crop and print your images in whatever size and combination that you have. I use it when I want to print different images on the same page. It actually works pretty well. you may also want to look at using 4X6 paper sizes as well. If you can find some software that will help calibrate your monitor, that will help as well. There should be some information in this web site that will help you as well.

Hope this helps

Hi, Cindy -

My computer came with software and my scanner and printer software came bundled with photoprograms= MGI Photosuite, Ulead, and Adobe PhotoDeluxe. They all let you crop, resize, adjust, apply special effects and save your photo as various formats (jpg, tif, bitmaps, etc.) Check your computer and driver software - you might have one or all of these! (We hardly ever use our scanner since we got our digital camera.)

You may want to checkout Qimage Pro. This software lets you print a number photos, depending on the size, on one 8 x 10. You can also enhance you photos. You can download a trial version to try it out, to buy is $30 and all updates are free. http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/imaging/index.html

If you go to CompUSA look in their Paper section. You will see lots of Photographic Inkjet paper by Kodak. This is pretty good stuff. One package comes with paper - and a CD with picture printing software on it that makes it very easy and economical to use. This allows you to print pictures of all sizes - multiple pictures per page, etc. Last time I looked it was about 16 dollars ... and well worth it.
