How will we know when Y2K's over?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

How can we know when Y2K The "Event" is over? Easy - follow the money. Watch Westergard, Year2000.com, and all the favorite doomasters close up the Y2K shop. Yes, the y2k bugs will be with us for a while, but the money pit's dryin' up, time for a new threat, a BIG one, something with REAL money..

P.T. Barnum, you have nothing on these clowns....

We'll know it's over when the spammers and trolls finally pack up their tents and jump off a cliff.

(Anyone else remember what the one Illinois Nazi (Arte Johnson?) said to the other as their car was falling out of the sky in The Blues Brothers?)

Naw, we'll know it's over when Ron Schwarz says it's over.

Uh, Ron, is the answer to your question, 'May the Scwarz be with you?'

-- Badco (humor is @foodtoo.com), January 05, 2000.

I think it will be when John Koskinen says so. Right? He DID mention something about "degradation of services over time", whatever that is supposed to mean. Wasn't particularly specific. Sounds like a nice way of saying "watch out, poop hitting the fan slowly". The good news is that if poop DOES hits slowly, there will still be time to get out of the way as it flies...!

Well, let's see if the IRS accepts my electronic return...if they do, at least I'll breathe a bit easier.

It will never be over. It's all coming down as we speak and it's only going to get much much worse.

Uh, Ernest, take a prozac and relax, ok? Try to read some newspapers.

-- Bad Company (another@theward.com), January 05, 2000.

hmm...Kosky talks about "degradation of services".....like Clinton's Army buddies talked about "degradation of Slobo's ability to make war". Degradation...popular word in the Clinton White House.

Gee FactFinder...how about...when pollies decide there's no more point in coming here?

-- a (a@a.a), January 05, 2000.

Ron, Troll, moi'? You haven't read many of my posts have you? I have hundreds of posts here, and a couple of them even make sense, lol. This one was for fun though, humor with more than just a little bit of truth to it....open your eyes my good man..

LOL 'a'! Hey FartCatcher, got a comeback to that one???

-- LOL (ha@ha.ha), January 05, 2000.

FactFinder -

Are you perhaps implying that the Westergaard site (I assume you recognize me from there) was a money making thing?

Given that I've written 110 Y2K articles, I'm sick of the topic. Whether or not we've learned anything from the effort remains to be seen.

Judging from the flame wars here, I'd say the chances of a rational assessment of what did or did not happen with Y2K (that's the two digit year thing, not the Millennial Madness whacko stuff) is going to take a while.

aa@aa, Thanks for dropping by, what a treat! I've watched your cowardly post on Hoff, and read your silly and snide display of vulgarity for many months. You were totally wrong about Y2K, you know it, and yet you continue to harrass. That my boy, is characteristic of an unintelligent, red necked, clueless, piece of shit. Take your pickup, your dog, your trailer, your fat ugly wife, and shove them all where the sun don't shine.

Ahhhh... I enjoyed that, lol. I don't think I've ever called anyone a curseword here in this forum, at least not for many many months. But for the cowardly aa@aa who can't even speak without cussin', it was well deserved.

LOL-haha, it's pretty funny that you post as aa@aa and many other handles, but your "crap" is always the same...;)

-- FactFinder (FactFinder@bzn.com), January 05, 2000.

David, Regarding the Westergard site, I've always assumed it made money for someone. Are you saying this isn't true? I am always open for the facts, so please share them. May I send in auditors to verify?

uh... I think its over...

-- ed (edrider007@aol.com), January 05, 2000.

ROFL ed, Y2K, or this thread??? I do believe you're right..but this is my thread, and I'm gonna defend it to the bitter end. I warn aa@aa and everyone to leave this thread alone. If I come back tomorrow and don't see nothing but whitespace and that stupid greensun picture below, there's gonna be big trouble. This is my thread and I will defend it to the bitter end...lol.

-- FactFinder (FactFinder@bzn.com), January 05, 2000.

But for the cowardly aa@aa who can't even speak without cussin', it was well deserved.

uh...you be da only one cussin on this thread boss....

-- a (a@a.a), January 05, 2000.

And BTW moron...I can point you to numerous threads where I gave the Milne scenario a 20% probability, a depression 50% and a recession 28%...my same position all the way back to Aug 97. I have also maintained ever since then that the economic crash would be a greater problem than y2k.

Get your 'facts' straight would you.

-- a (a@a.a), January 06, 2000.

It's over when the last prep is used up, so no one has anything make them feeling defensive anymore. Judging from some of the posts, that may be awhile...

-- Jim Thompson (jimthompsonmd@attglobal.net), January 06, 2000.

Are you milking goats, feeding chickens and working a garden now?If you are you'll not know the difference. If you aren't,then when you have to do this, the "event will be over.

-- paul mika (tigerpm@netscape.com), January 06, 2000.

-- FactFinder, you said:

"This is my thread and I will defend it to the bitter end...lol."

That's the spirit! With moxie like that you'll go places!

Muy lol,

When every physical company has done 3 production runs.

When the Automobile industry has done one complete cycle, from ore and oil in the ground to a finished car driving off the assembly line.

When every financial institution has closed its books on 2000.

When I have my 2000 tax refund in May 2001.

Then I will say it is over.

-- woody (woody11420@aol.com), January 06, 2000.

Woody, I liked the tax refund thing, but I believe I will go with getting my 1999 tax refund in 2000 as my own y2k's over milestone.
