"On the lighter side of things (if such is permitted): a local newspaper reported that York Region (the region just directly north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) was hit by a geriatric crime spree in the new year --an 80-year-old man sexually assaulted an 83-year-old woman; a 76-year-old man was charged with possessing marijuana; a 69-year-old man was charged with assault causing bodily harm; two youths, aged 83 and 84 respectively, were listed as missing ...

No, Y2K did not short circuit our older folk -- but a police computer that misread birth dates turning teenagers into octagenarians. (Apparently, it turned 2000 into 1900, but how it made teenagers born in the 1980s into seniors is beyond my basic computer/math skills to imagine.)

Apparently, the glitch has now been fixed and our senior population has returned to its normal non-violent lifestyle."

It's like this. current_year - birth_year = age

and since age obviously can't be negative it logically follows that

00 - 86 = 86

Happy New Year!
