South Africa and Y2K

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Going to Sandton City, South Africa's biggest shopping centre, today a third of the traffic lights were not working. Will we find out whether this is Y2K or wet weather related? At Sandton City itself, many of the shops were on low-light emergency electricity supply. No-one knows why. It will only take a few sensational press reports to put JSE paper profit holders into profit protection mode.

hi, would you have a link?

Sorry, no link, but rather an eyewitness report!

thanks, cage. I would like the links also, but it is eyewitness accounts that i primarily come to this board for.

I wouldn't attribute too much to the power failure. I used to work in Sandton (doll), and there were several power outs in the surrounding area. (I am very interested in the insurance company beginning with S though. Do you have any references to that ?)

Insurance company with "S" - yes, I know the inside details but cannot divulge anymore on the 'net.
