Wouldn't Major Disruptions be a Plus?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

For the past 14 months I have studied Y2k believers and deniers. This has actually been more interesting than the main problem in itself. Some very smart people acted pretty damn stupid and some of those that weren't the brightest colors in the crayon box seem to have a grasp of the possible implications. Those that went to the hills will probably stay there from now on and who among us would blame them? They are the luckiest! And the reason why I think we need some Y2K major disruptions is as follows: Anytime I watch the Bloomberg stock market channel for over an hour, I get almost nauseated watching the smug, arrogant, over confident experts give their spin on what makes the financial world go around. Then you have those 24 hour news channel Infobabes give their ditzy renditions of the news. These situp straight gals wouldn't know what an emergencey generator was if they rode it to work. Did you ever notice that when some of these people turn sideways on camera you can see daylight from one ear to the other ear? A shortage of food, booze, cigarettes and illegal drugs might be just the thing that could bring these idiots back down to planet earth and make their mother's proud of them again.

I agree, there are an awful lot of people who need a good slap across the face to help them snap out of their television-induced trance.

Hey, For Real, take a break :)!

You are so right. I too was hoping that it would sort of crash, and bring some arrogant people I know to the ground. Damned if it didn't turn out that their smug predictions were right. Now with even more arrogance than ever they can stick their noses even higher to the sky, and with a smug mockery to their voice say, "see, I told you so." I know it would have caused the decimation of a lot of the population, but it may have been worth it to have wiped the slate clean and started over. I know the mess we have as a government needs to be flushed down the toilet, and a whole new roll of toilet paper placed on the holder. Now we have got to live with the unflushed toilet and expect even worse from it. Hey buddy, I am with you.

And you BOTH are wrong on at least two counts (Clouseau-ism may follow):

First, you are assuming that it's over. WRONG! THere is info being developed now that suggests that the original negative expactations (It's the economy stupid - end quote) were acurate. Watch this space as well as the GICC space for developments.

Second, One does not need death and destruction to awaken people like the ones you discuss.

Third, (Warned you about the Clouseau-ism), a very real economic slide is in the development phase right now. This will eventually waken those you want to humble, and you will see them humbled. Of course, YOU TOO might get caught in the econimic/virtual crossfire and be humbled TOO, but thais is what these things are for, as I'm sure you will agree.

Chuck

Who would just as soo this cup passed without the need to drink from it but isn't really optimistic it'll get by.

"Second, One does not need death and destruction to awaken people like the ones you discuss."

I agree, and I have never advocated that people need to die. As far as "destruction," understand that I do not desire any real physical destruction, but rather destruction of "the system," or the manner and methods in which we operate our business and society.

To Hawk -- um, you didn't? And yet you say that all the projected death may have been worth it. Sorry, that sounds a little too creepy on my end!

-- Ned Raggett (ned@kuci.org), January 05, 2000.

To answer the inital question: NO.

---...---

re-read the "Hawk's" message: he is saying that changing the current immoral and unethical administration, and the amoral values of the socialists behind their extremism and hatred is required and would be a "good thing" - this is not "death" or revolution or wishing harm on others.

Merely wanting to change the evil people within the system so it works correctly.
