Alright, Y2K. I'm stumped. Is everything really being reported? Not even a hiccup?? Is it not over yet? What happened?

There have been a few "hiccups", including in our defense system, but it was quickly fixed. Some believe that Feb 29th may be a problem, as they aren't sure if computers know it's a leap year. Is it over? If anyone gives you a definite either way to that, drop to your knees! Sue

There really has been a lot of minor glitches. Several forums that I read have the wrong year to the new posts, everything from the year 100 to the year 19100. I've also gotten a lot of emails with the wrong dates on them. Some computers have defaulted back to 1980, others to 1984. Yes, there have been plenty of Y2K related hiccups, but so minor in nature that they have been pretty much ignored by the media. Several of the hiccups were in nuclear power plants, but there was never any danger whatsoever. I've gotten my information from the various news wires listed at http://www.drudgereport.com Even though there wasn't a Y2K disaster as some thought there would be, I think that awareness was awakened and there are a lot of people now prepared for disasters and other events that never were before. Bottom line, thank goodness nothing other than preparedness happened.

Article in todays paper says the food banks are being swamped already! People sending in their stash after only 4 days. Also people have started to complain the gov wasted to much money on the fix. What a strange world we live in! I'm waiting on possibly some geat deals on tools and solar stuff in the want ads. Kirk

I'm curious about the Solar Flares that were suppose to interfere with satellites, ATMs,cell phones and so on. I thought China was suppose to crash, Japan, third world countries?

My computer has been goofy since 1/1/00 but nothing that I can't handle, still there are a lot of unanswered questions, that all the experts had therories not too many weeks ago!

Nothing major happened here in upstate N.Y. which was pretty surprising since very seldom do we exist to the rest of the state .Lets all be thankfull nothing has happened yet .We have extra paper products , fuel ,and food thats not a bad thing .I'm sure MOTHER NATURE has something up her sleave before winter is over .

I think that a lot of glitches aren't being reported. Talked to someone I know at the local credit union, and they said things were a mess on Monday morning.

Well, keep in mind that Y2K is a year, not a day, and we're only in the first week. There have been quite a lot of minor date related glitches but so far everyone seems to be able to stay ahead of them. If everyone can continue to do this then the whole Millennium Bug problem will be a nusiance but not a disaster. We've run into several here at work but have managed to get them all fixed.

Quite a lot of important software has either yet to be run or is only just now being run. The first pay period calculations for year 2000 are being run right now or the end of next week. A lot of end of week, month and year reports have yet to be run.

The lights didn't go out and the planes didn't crash on the first day which makes me happy. If we can stay ahead of the wave of minor (so far) problems for the rest of the year that'll be good too. You'll never hear me complain about having prepared for the hurricane just because it turned and went somewhere else. Same with Y2K.

There are supposed to be a good number of businesses, including some banks, that have just changed their dates so they can run. In order, they are not yet Y2K compliant. They are, I'm sure continuing to work on the problem, but that also means that it ain't fixed yet. Keep the food, rotate it as you use things and replace with new, keep the solar panels, etc. We may not be out of the woods yet. Besides, China has threatened to nuke us several times in the last couple of years, and Russia fired an unarmed missile at us a few weeks ago as a warning for us not to mess with Chechenya. It went down near the coast of Alaska. It is better to be prepared.

What happened ? Well, it's like this.

We've been had !! Too much fear and panic ruled. Too many people didn't stop long enouh to think. Some others who WERE thinking knew they could make a big buck on the whole issue and decided to do so. There's a good book that refers to people as being like sheep, blindly following the skape goat. When enough people start going with the flow, pretty soon, people get the "every body's doing it" mentality and get to figgering they, too, should be doing something. Presidents and politicians in general get elected in somewhat the same fashion. It's not cause people actually know what they're doing ... they just go with the flow. Takes less energy and thinking that way. After all, millions of people can't ALL be wrong, can they ?

And .. a bigger mystery still ... now that the evidence is in, that this was all a freeking trip for nuthin', people are still in shock and are having a hard time getting it !! They bought the lie and capitalists around the globe made their millions, selling survival gear, foods, guns, water, fuel !! An awsome boon to our economy !! Marketting at it's BEST !! Package an idea, target your market and the sheep will lay their money down !! Beanie Babies and Y2K !!

Now ... Get over it !!

Respectfully Submitted, L. A. Smith

Well, I didn't go nuts...didn't buy a buncha survival gear. Got me a shotgun and ammo, used foodstamps to stock in a 6 month supply of food I'll eat anyway. So I'm over it. thanks for buyin my food!

I don't feel that everything is being reported and that's ok with me. I have my supplies, fuel, water, extra cots, blankets, sheets, medicines, for any emergency that may arise. I will keep my food stores rotated and continually updated. I am still continuing to put away more items. I feel that there will come a time when it will be necessary to use these things, whether from illness, unemployment or disaster and I will and my family will be thrilled to have it.
