I'm on vacation. You ask the questions for a while. If I wander back this way, I'll answer them.

Why oh WHY is there an asshole no matter where you work. Why dammit. Is there like, a law that nobody told Renee about?

-- Anonymous, January 04, 2000

Oh, that one's easy, Renee. Because no one wants assholes to live with them, and no one wants to support an asshole; thus, all assholes must work for a living. Since there are so many assholes in the world, the odds are that you'll always work with at least one.

That's actually part of the first rule for life I came up with: Spend as much time as you can with the nice people because it barely begins to make up for the time you have to spend with the assholes.

My question/gripe for the day...When on earth is Greenspun going to start the e-mail notification again? I miss getting this stuff in my mailbox as it happens, because I keep forgetting to visit the site.

Oh, and has everyone looked at DotComGuy? Remember the puppy cams? This is worse. This is voyerism at it's best, y'all. Check the man out!

I don't know when they'll reenable the notifications, but I hear you - - I hate this, too. I'm shopping around for another forum, and my number one requirement is that it have mail notification like this one. Only, you know, the kind that works.

Oh, yeah, regarding DotComGuy or whatever his name is: he's not as cute as the puppies. I'd rather watch the puppies, even when they're peeing.

I've got a question: What's your sure-fire cure for the blues?

I've got 'em. Post-holiday, new year blues.

Honey, if I had a sure fire cure, this journal would be either a lot more or a lot less entertaining, depending on your perspective.

But I find that sunshine helps. Getting outside. It doesn't cure everything, but especially in the middle of winter, it helps an awful lot. If you don't have sunshine where you live, I'm not sure what you do.

Cure for post-holiday blues - I used to get them, years ago, but no more. I think I don't get them anymore because I have very low expectations about holidays in general and I put very little stress on myself with regard to what *other* people's expectations might be. I usually end up doing a few things I didn't really want to do, but then I am happy when it's over, not blue about it.

Beth's advice about getting outside in real light is also very good, I think, just for winter blues in general. Leaving for work in the dark and having it be dark right after I get home from work is a drag, but I always try to go for a walk at lunchtime, and so far the weather's been great for that 90% of the time this winter.

Sometimes it's worse in the summer, like July and August, which are often very foggy months here, especially on the wesy side of town where I live. So then it's the same thing really - just getting outside for some sun at lunchtime and lots on the weekends.
