Excite having problems?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

Just went to the local news page on excite (http://news.excite.com/news/us/ca/?summaries=h) and the California page had not been up dated since 12/31/99. I randomly checked ten to fifteen other states, and found the same. Anyone else having problems with excite?

I got the same expereince at the URL yyou gave but when I went to http://news.excite.com/news/ Igot news for January 3rd. The naming convention for their news stores includes a two digit yymmdd format that may be confusing to their program. Example: http://news.excite.com/news/r/991231/06/ca-state-news-1

I tried a url with 000104 (http://news.excite.com/news/r/000103/06/) and got a news page.

Doing a search for January on a December 31 state page give both 99 and 00 stories but the 99's are on top. This appears to clearly be a Y2K-related sorting problem.

I took a look and saw the same results, however, when I clicked on "Sort by date" it sorted the dates properly from most recent down.

It looks like there might be a minor display problem, but the real sort appears to be done correctly by an actual, internally stored date.

It seems that their archive is not working correctly.

On the "State News" page, if you go to the search box at the bottom of the page and search for the 2 character state code, you will get recent news for that state.

They definitely have a problem, but you can get around it.
