Answers

IRIS isn't the only quake server with problems. The quake maps at St. Louis University are having problems -- showing many extra quakes (it seems to be all quakes for the past few years). http://www.eas.slu.edu/Earthquake_Center/FQHTML/nmd.html

Also, the jet stream map at: http://virga.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_init_00.gif is missing (last update was Friday at 1200, GMT).
