Does anyone have any contacts within the IRS computer dept people that could give any insight on how they are doing now? I know that lots of people are practically lined up on the first possible day to electronically file their tax returns so as to be "first in line" to get their refunds. Any news on that front??

No info on the IRS, but the VA is running amoke. My wife just called the Bay Pines VA office in St. Pete, FL, and their computers are down. The person she talked with said it looked like Y2K. No official confirmation, other than their systems are down.

The Bay Pines thing does not surprise me at all, given the sloppiness of care there in recent years (i.e. the man on dialysis who bled to death while his attendant took a coffee break or whatever). Sorry to hear that the computers are down. Sometimes I think that the VA's are the most disgraceful thing there is in our bureaucratic world.
