Easy SVCD Solution for mpeg2 on CD-R?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Please tell me if this is possible:

I am looking (like everyone else) for an affordable solution for putting mpeg 2 files onto CD-R for playback in a set-top DVD/SVCD/VCD player. If I purchased the Pinnacle DV-500, I could capture in DV-Native, convert to mpeg2, then use Philips' $500 SVCD authoring software to burn a SVCD. Is the mpeg2 format (that the DV-500 Minerva Impression software converts to)compliant with SVCD? I think its' mpeg2 format is BIPP or IPPI. I understand this is not exactly *affordable* but cheaper that a DVD burner! Is my idea possible?

I tried making a Nero 5 SVCD using a CDR-RW 80 min. but Nero did not want to accept a true Mpeg2 720x since it was not 480x480 svcd specs. I'm trying to still find a relyable conversion program to convert DVD Mpeg2 to SVCD to play my home videos on my SVCD/DVD player.
