CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's oil industry began the new millennium free of Y2K problems and operations were reported to be running normally Saturday.

The loading of tankers, suspended Friday evening as a precautionary measure, resumed at all terminals at 6 a.m. Saturday "as planned and without problems," PDVSA, the state-owned oil giant said in a statement.

"Reports received at headquarters after midnight from the regional operational centers can be described with this expression: no news," PDVSA said.

Refineries were operating normally, and operational and administrative systems were running trouble-free, the company said. Gas pumping and distribution operations were also proceeding normally both to private homes and industrial users, it said.

A permanent nationwide monitoring of critical systems, which started at 7 a.m. Dec. 13, will continue through Jan. 5, PDVSA said.

Venezuela is one of the three largest foreign suppliers of oil to the United States, along with Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
