What % of US$600 Billion Was Spent on Embeddeds

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Think about your gleeful crowing a minute. Less than 5% of the US$600 Billion was spent on embedded chips/systems repairs. We can fairly safely now assume they were never a problem - since most of the world did nothing and experienced as much success as the Good 'Ole U S of A.

If they were a problem (and even the eperts didn't agree until yesterday), it very well could have been TEOTWAWKI.

Think it through, though. You're claiming complete victory over Y2K on Jan. 2, 2000. With over 95% of the repairs still facing there tests (and there is no doubt that software systems programmed for two digits dates don't work right unless properly remediated, windowed, replaced, something).

The rest of the world (and a good chunk of your country) lucked out on the embeddeds - they weren't fixed, it just turned out that they didn't have to be. I pray that the world will get lucky a second time but I know it won't because now we're talking about my area of expertise - software systems.

Go ahead, Pollies, crow till the cows come home but keep in mind that it's only 6-0, there's still over five minutes left in the first quarter and the Doomers are about to get the ball back.

Can you clear up something for me?

Do you want it to turn out bad? Are you hoping beyond hope their will be critical failures just so you can be proven to be right?

Is being right so important to you that you would want a catastophe to happen so you can be?

Is being right that damn important to you?

Sorry, I thought I was clear:

"I pray that the world will get lucky a second time but I know it won't because now we're talking about my area of expertise - software systems."

Cherri - where in the world did THIS come from? The man said " I pray that the world will get lucky a second time". How did your twisted little mind distort this statement into something it's not? Sheesh! You just like to hear yourself talk, don't you?

Cherri--You've got no room to talk, isn't that why you post here? You think you are so right and you argue, whine and bitch. Is being right than damn important to you Cherri?

Cherri nobody wants the destruction of the planet, but the human race needs to stop and look where we are headed y2k would have been a wake up call.

what has humanity achieved in 100 years besides the acceleration towards his own destruction.

Exploded 100's of thermal nuclear bombs into his life support system. The destrution of millions of his fellow man in wars. The ruthless exploitation of third world peoples. The destruction of a wide range of natural habitat for himself and the other species. When bill gates and 2 partners have the combined wealth of 600 MILLION PEOPLE please dont try to tell me the garden is all rosy (UTTERLY DISGUSTING).

Although it is still too early to say that embedded systems weren't a problem, perhaps Mr. Way of IEEE was correct when he said that only a small percentage of the problems would involve them. I also suspect that many water treatment plants, etc. set their clocks back.

Cherri, I guess you knew more than anyone. If the tptb had just talked to you they wouldn't have had to build that 50 million dollar bunker. The NY mayor wouldn't have had to go underground. "Think It" is correct...the world was lucky.

Ok folks lets go. I guess you need someone your own size to pick on. Its not the end of the world ok......now with that said let me ask you this. Did you do any work on y2k for free? If you didnt do it all for free we dont owe you a thing
