Are we beginning the new phase of transformation of The Global Brain?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Reflecting on the quality and diversity of participants in online discussions such as this one, and appreciating that never before in the history of humans have people focused their consciousness to such a degree on ONE subject..

It makes me think that one outcome of Y2K may be a transformative one: linking human awareness closer to becoming more of the form of a Peter Russell style Global Brain.

Are there more transformations possible from this connectivity, regardless of the outcome of the CDC?

Who is Peter Russell? Is he related to Peter North?

A Global brain would be a little short on grey matter would it not?

It would in y2k pro/llogics' case...

A visionary of our time. http://www.peterussell.com/index2.html is his home page.

OT...

The only thing I am certain about, with the exception of Y2K not being over with yet, is the sure growth of one stock in particular. Check up on "Digital Angel". Put your money there and LEAVE IT.

Some of you will balk at this but you know its growth future is certain. You may not agree with it, but at least you can profit from it and apply the profits as you see fit. And no, I reap nothing from your investment.

We're part of the grey matter of the Global Brain, when we're communicating back and forth like you and I are right now. How does it feel to be a neuron of the Global Brain.

The human brain has evolved to the complexity of about 10 billion neurons. Interestingly, the human population is getting up to that order of magnitude.

-- Chuck (cestin@aa.net), January 02, 2000.

I guess I'm one of those neurons that thinks about sex all the time. Surely, I can't be the only one...

You're definitely not in the grey matter of The Global Brain. More likely in the primitive reptilian brain part.. But don't worry. You primitive neuron types are important too. How are we going to get our numbers up to 10 Billion without you?

Well, Chuck. You should have taken more physiology classes in school since sexual desire is not a function of the "reptilian brain." Certainly you've wrongly identified your own place in the Global Organism. However, without hearing more of your inane drivel, it would be hard to identify where you are located exactly. I have my own opinions, but perhaps this is a "family-oriented" forum...

"Check up on "Digital Angel". Put your money there and LEAVE IT."

Oh yeah, that's exactly what we should do, invest money in the New World Order technology to take away the last shred of freedom that we have left.

Did you ever see the movie "Matrix"? While you're at it, why don't you just climb into one of those energy cells and let them plug you in! Lol !!

Truk/Kurt:

You're not right on this one: "You should have taken more physiology classes in school since sexual desire is not a function of the "reptilian brain." Au contraire, it most certainly is, along with anger, rage, fear and other "primitive" emotions. Using the tripartite model, reptilian sexual desire (from the midbrain and limbic system) is modified by the "mammalian brain" and (presumably) by the human brain (neocortex). Even Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad/Poor Dad and Cash Flow Quadrant, discusses the urges of the reptilian brain and its potentially adverse effects when investing.

-- Geneticist-Investor (best@bothworlds.com), January 02, 2000.

Well, here's a sample quote from Mr. Kiyosaki:

"The main reason people struggle financially is because they spent years in school but learned nothing about money. The result is, people learn to work for money...but never learn to have money work for them."

Sounds like an expert on human sexuality to me!

Truk:

As a former dean of a large midwest medical school used to say, "sex and science - and not necessarily in that order".

-- geneticist-investor (best@bothworlds.com), January 02, 2000.

Let me guess. This former dean is now a Beverly Hills sexologist who says, "Sex first, of course!"

-- Truk (truk@loa.moc), January 02, 2000.

I'll pass on your suggestion to him. The reason for the "former" status is rather...off-topic.

And my own personal response to the original question of this thread, to quote the one spoken word by Marcel Marceau in Silent Movie, "No".

-- Geneticist-Investor (best@bothworlds.com), January 02, 2000.

Well, G-I, although I concur with your reply to the original topic of this thread ("No"), I'm surely doing it for reasons that are different from yours.

I'd like to wish you a peaceful existence. I suppose it's the best one can wish for toward another inhabitant of this planet, no?

-- Truk (truk@loa.moc), January 02, 2000.

>I concur with your reply to the original topic of this thread ("No"),

Actually I should have said, "Non".

>I'm surely doing it for reasons that are different from yours.

Not sure what your reasons are. My reasons are based on the encoded hard-wiring of the human brain, whch probably have not changed since anatomically modern humans have existed based on mitochondrial genetics, probably ~125,000 yrs (Y-chromosome analyses ongoing, assuming y2k has not trashed lab equipment and data analyses (see Hart Scientific for hilarious y2k disclosure)).

>I'd like to wish you a peaceful existence. I suppose it's the best one can wish for toward another inhabitant of this planet, no?

Absolutely no problem with that. Happy New Year!

-- Geneticist-Investor (best@bothworlds.com), January 02, 2000.

Not quite clear what "the reasons" are referring to: why you're in this forum, or why your answers to the original thread question is "non" and "no"..

G-I's and Truk: both of your "no" answers to my question are meant to be discussion stoppers, which you are saying to confirm your opinions on the thread topic.

At the risk of incurring more of Truk's reptilian dominator derived accusations of writing more "inane drivel", I'd suggest otherwise. In fact the Y2K disequilibrium has captured the attention of both of you and a myriad of others who are engaging in intense worldwide conversation in various forums. Could this be a transformative stage in the potential evolution of a Global Brain? Disequilibria are often the stimuli for higher level self organization of systems - chemical, biological, and social.

Chuck, wasn't that the purpose of the media coverage? Eg: CNN mentioned when covering the rollover at Cairo that the citizens were against the national participation with recognizing this date, yet Cairo wanted to do it to (1) raise global awareness, and (2) benefit tourism.

-- Hokie (Hokie_@hotmail.com), January 02, 2000.

Maybe so, Hokie. Media coverage is one level of "awareness", but thoughtful, interactive communications are also needed to move us to another level such as Peter Russell envisions.

Hey y'all;

You might find some food for thought on a thread I started a few days ago -
