Since it is almost univerally aknowleged that y2k will not be a real techno problem, the terrorist threat has hardly been mentioned by the media. Do you suppose that our govt. and the media had it set up to blame all techno problems on the terrorists?

They come in all flavors you know, foriegn, domestic and cyber. Don't forget the hackers. Not one of these ghouls have done, or have attempted to do anything. Do you think that our govt just might have set up these "straw men" just in case they were neeeded?

Why would these animals give up just because the techno problem seems ok?

We have been snookered once again folks. God its good to live in a free society.

Bill I hope you are right but fear you aren't. Nobody, terrs included I suspect, want to die needlessly. I wouldn't have gone to the Rose or any of the bowl games today and I certainly wouldn't go to any football games on Sunday. The year is quite young....

Then too, how do we know someone wasn't throwing handfuls of powdered, weaponized smallpox into the air on a roof a mile or so upwind of Times Square last night? If they had we wouldn't know it for a few days yet and it could take a while after the first cases appear for us to figure out what happened. The incubation period is 5-14 days for smallpox (and victims can spread the virus to others prior to becoming symptomatic).

I don't think the terrorism reports were a ruse or faked...

Don't you wonder why, for the last two weeks, we were seeing dozens of reports about the possibility of terrorist threats, on every front page, and every radio and television news broadcast, and as soon as no problems with infrastructure failures were witnessed, they suddenly stopped entirely?

Take a look at any typical news page and you will see that it has entirely changed from two days ago, when they were covered with the fear-mongering terrorist articles. The real terrorist was the government, because of the fear of chaos caused by its own citizens, and now that they have control over the situation, the "terrorists" have magically disappeared!

Hey, when the media "failed" to cover the y2k meltdown properly, it was a coverup. When they *did* get fooled and covered the terrorists and viruses, they're wrong again. Of course, if they had *ignored* the terrorists and viruses, that would have been another coverup.

Isn't it amazing that so far, Koskinen's view of y2k is totally on the mark, and nobody seems to notice this? I wonder why.

Think of it this way . If you were a bank robber , planing a heist , but something/someone told the cops/media it was going to happen , would you still go thru with your plans if every bank had extra guards and a crusier parked nearby ? OR , would you wait for things to calm down , THEN " pull the job ?" Also, reading/hearing on the media that others/friends who tried to ' case ' a bank , were caught ( i.e. the ones at the border ) , would you still run into their open arms because it MUST be done immediately ? NO NO NO !!! They are NOT stupid . Also , as great disruptions DID NOT occur on the rollover , AND pokice were everywhere looking for trouble , why not wait a couple of days ... then strike . I have not , nor ever intend to engage in terrorism , etc. and condem those that do . I mearly tried to think this thru from their viewpoint and come up with a reason as to why they held off on any attacks . I don't think it was all hype , nor is the danger past . Silver Eagle

Sorry "Eagle" - but I respectfully disagree.....

For four weeks, we had been subjected to a steadily increasing racaus symphony of "terrorist threats" and "terrorism" stories from the manistream media - ALL were (at the time) including phrases like " ... while no actual threats have been made yet.... authorities caution (blah, blah, blah)..."

Right at the end - 8 days before rollover, a few arrests were made - mostly at the Canada border -where NO people had previously been arrested ever for terrorist crossings and infiltration. (Other infiltration had been through Miami, CA, NY (several times), etc....not Canada.)

Even a few of those arrested were then (in later stories) called only 'illegal alien" and "illegal immigartion" issues - NOT terrorist threats.

Immediately after rollover - every story on terrorism vanished.

There have been NONE in the days since 01/01, compared to hundreds in the days before rollover - because the federal agencies are no longer feeding stories to the press, because the administration does not need them to continue feeding stories to the media.

Or do you have a better, more logical explanation? The terrorism threat existed, but it was very minor from only a few sources (just ONE was named, and he only had 15 people in the whole group - to "terrorize an entire nation?????).

The terrorism threat existed - but primarily in the minds of the federal agency heads who needed it to increase their budgets, their manning, the control over policy, and their power in Washington. This greedy desire for power also served as an excuse for those who were trying to blame all year issues on their oppoennets - an effort also thrawted by the very symptoms now seen and publicized.

A polly who claims Ed Yourdon or Hyatt or North is "disappointed" in the results may be only wrong is who was "disppointed" - there were/are likely several leaders in the various anti-terrorism organizations who were also expecting much worse problems than actually occurred. And these "leaders" were/are more likely to be very upset their work was not needed - because unlike Yourdon and Hyatt - these guys are now out of a job and have no reason to continue their very expensive programs if there is no "vast right wing conspiarcy of heavily armed militia thugs and gun-toting fanatics" out there to bully against.

Course, there never was this right-wing conspiracy in the first place, but since when did these policy makers in DC care about the truth about their opponents .....
