Venezuela - Does anyone know if they are ok? They shut down production, loading tankers, and port operation before the roll-over. Right now I can't think where to go to check this.

Ports- most large ports around the world shut down and would not accept any ships into them. Anyone know where we could check on these after they resumed operation?

Saudi Arabia, Arab Emirates - infrastructure, oil production, ports - Anyone have any information?

Oil Tankers - probably no place to check on this.

Refineries - they were "fix on failure" due to difficulty of locating systems that might fail. Any info on these?

Pipelines - Many pipelines in this country were shut down and will go back on line Monday.

Chemical Companies - many shut down, will go back on line Monday.

Railroads stopped for the roll-over with trains near stations. Any reports on them?

All of the above have to work to keep fuel in the line for electricity production.

Capers Jones has said that Monday will be a major test as all sectors begin to function again. At the moment I have electricity. Hopefully I will still have it 2-3 weeks from now.

I have to say I'm quite surprised thus far. No reports of major refining problems, pipe problems etc. I think it's far to early to tell what's really going on out there. I've never been a big believer in trusting initial reports of ANYTHING. The sheer amount of perfect rollovers forces me to believe that we may be only seeing preliminary happy faced stuff. However, the fact that we have not seen any big bangs here in the US is a major positive! I am quite happy to see this and breathing big sighs of relief. I am hopeful that this will be the case. I am doubtful that this is possible. Certainly though TEOTWAKI has been largely avoided from a physical standpoint (i'm reserving judgement on economic and financial systems until they get in a full day). Also, my understanding of the problem includes the fact that we are not under FULL LOAD right now. It will be intersting to see it all come back up. Happy first day of 19100 to all! (this date screw up is all over the web today).

This was posted earlier to TB2K from Gordon Gekko a guy in the oil industry: This would seem on the face of it to be impossible. Statistically impossible that all of these chips performed correctly or were successfully remediated. I'm going to reserve judgement for a while here. It's important to remember that the major futures markets are doing exactly that until Tuesday. I'm with them. I find it troubling that we had not ONE major flub somewhere. That's not probable or credible. Thanks, Jim, just what I wanted to know. Will monitor news next week and hope it stays this way.

It was reported (by Koskinen I believe) that reports of US port shutdowns are not true. The ports have refused entry to some ships with questionable Y2K certification.

Regards,

I have understood (perhaps incorrectly?) that most of the O&G Cos/pipelines have shut down or gone on minimal for the rollover.

If this is so, then the statement that "we have had no problems" would be somewhat mis-leading (of course there are no problems if nothing is *on*)...

Please correct if this is wrong information.

Birdlady, the ones I know for sure that shut down were Houston to Chicago, Houston to Oklahoma, and Houston to the eastern seaboard. Earlier on this forum I listed several foreign ports that were shutting down for a number of hours during the roll-over. Some were totally closing and others were only allowing ships of a certain size and/or only admitting those that could show proof of y2k readiness. I believe all Canals were imposing restrictions as well. News from all these installations will gradually filter out unless there is a major incident that would immediately come to the forefront. Let's see what happens Monday.
