01/01/100 Date Glitch Crops Up At Free Republic Site

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

That wild and crazy 01/01/100 date glitch that has surfaced so far at the Greenwich Countdown clock and at the U.S. Naval Observatory's on-line clock has manifested itself on all posts at the Free Republic site forum (www.freerepublic.com).

It is inevitable: The system will be perturbed.

I don't think the Freeper site is connected to any Nuclear plant cooling systems, but ya never know...

It's a simple win95 bug. If your regional settings are set to display a 2 digit year, after the roll over, it will display 01/01/100. If you re-boot, it will display 01/01/00. Or, change your regional settings to display a 4-digit year and you don't have to re-boot.

Got newz for ya, I'm the one reporting it, I didn't change my settings and reboot, but I think John Robinson fixed it on the fly.

My regional settings are fine; the small oversight exists within the Free Republic software. And if it is simply a Win95 regional settings problem, why wasn't it quickly corrected by the Greenwich / Naval Observatory techies?

Ron is correct. We found the problem on our PC's here. The ones set to display a 2 digit year displayed 01/01/100. Those using a 4 digit year displayed 01/01/2000. Changing the setting or re-booting corrected it.

djf is right, John Robinson of FR has corrected the glitch. There's gonna be a lot of that come Monday morning.

And the system will be perturbed.
