Ok, just heard on 970 WFLA AM "Power outage caused by motorist hitting power pole."

Im not joking, this really is happening! Dont know about phones tho.

Funny, they have been running an ad here that shows a car load of people hitting a power pole saying to the effect "NO ITS NOT Y2K IF THE POWER GOES OUT...NO NO NO!"

Didn't someone "hit a pole" earlier in NZ?? Sheesh! I wonder how many more power outages will be blamed on ppl hitting poles by the time this ordeal is over. We should have spent the trillion dollars on protecting our power company poles instead of the 'puters.

Hyatt site just reported Walton County out too!

Jess: Yes you are close. Someone hit an insulator on a pole mounted transformer with a bullet from their rifle 41 minutes after the rollover. A rather sick New Year's prank.

I'm in Walton county, FL. No power anomalies or brownouts or anything all day. All is surprisingly well.

If the "motorist hit the pole" at exactly 12:00:01 a.m. then he was probably driving one of those non-compliant cars that Bennett was talking about.

If the power goes down as a result of Y2K my understanding is that most of the grid is to go down. A neighborhood or part of a city will not be y2K related. A whole grid? There are only 12 in the nation. The impact will be much more severe than 83,000 people
