I know that it's party time and that it is not the job of Jennings and Rather to actually report the news but come on folks, 3 nuclear power plants are "down".

Three U.S. Nuclear Plants Go Down (Associated Press) Three nuclear power plants unexpectedly shut down in South Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania as the new year approached, but federal officials said Friday the problems were not Y2K-related and the shutdowns were conducted safely. - Dec 31 7:21 PM EST

Of course it's not Y2K related. For the next 6 months that will be all that we hear. "It's not Y2K related". Hang on to your preps folks. ....sdb

Y2K is not Y2K-related.

How often are nukes shut down in the normal course of things, for various reasons?

Aren't they usually brought on line again fairly quickly?

And no, I don't think those are dumb questions.

Ummm, I guess it must be hard to believe media outlets. A grain of salt, yes, but, guess what? There are usually MORE than 3 nuke reactors down at any given time, and 3 of them stopping within a day's time is NOT news at any other time! So why now? Cause flakes WANT to believe that it's **Y2K**!!

Either I screwed up the link or they're very busy.

Anyway, it's: http://nrc.gov/NRR/DAILY/psr.htm

If it's not y2k related the insurance co. will have to pay.

From C-SPAN Live Bill Richardson Sec DOE 12/31/1999 9:15pm Eastern:

A sabateur(s) cut a major tower for Bonneville Power Authority in Oregon - power was rerouted but it will take several hours to repair the tower. FBI is investigating.

And several RTC in Wisconsin failed at GMT rollover but no computer was shutdown. Opinions differed whether power was briefly interrupted or not. Richardson refered to a subordinate that interchanged system supply for power supply stating no system was disrupted.

Jennings and Rather will report what the gov tells them to report.

The International Y2K Cooperation Center Global Status Watch: http://www.iy 2kcc.org/country/UNITEDSTATES.html

"General Comments:All electric power systems in the United States continue to report all systems are normal. No Y2K anomolies that affect electricity production, transmission, or delivery have been reported. In the Oil and Natural Gas industries all segments continue to report incident free."

All's honky dory in the United States...no mention of the 3 nuclear power plants currently down.

The Nuke plant in Ga appears to be getting back on line. See NRC's site

It's worth noting that the NRC site reports only daily with data collected from plants between 4AM & 8AM.

Spokesman for Duke Power in Charlotte, NC said that the Catawba Plant Number 2 in York County, SC tripped off line yesterday for reasons as yet unknown. He said that the safety system worked properly and the plant would be brought back on line as soon as it was safe to do so.

Nothing on the news here....I read about it here first and called them. Had to call three different places before I spoke to someone who was authorized to speak about it. No one initially even seemed to know anything about it. That's sure a confidence builder.

15 more minutes here! Happy Millenium!
