See further down the same report. THere's a 12/30/99 incident at the CATAWBA (Ca?) facility, which is categorized as a REACOT SCRAM. The description given states: "Hot Standby. Reactor trip for unknown reasons."

Ooops. Should be REACTOR SCRAM, of course.

Catawba, York South Carolina

-- (karlacalif@aol.com), December 31, 1999.

Right. The Catawba "trip" is categorized in the same document as a "SCRAM". See the footer of the document, where they give the key to the matrix codes. The number "1" in the extreme righthand column alongside the "reactor trip for unknown reasons" indicates the event is categorized as a SCRAM.

in CA? Only one nuclear power plant in CA and that's Diablo Canyon.

-- ~~~~~ (~~~@~~~.xcom), December 31, 1999.

This makes 2 HOT SCRAM in a 24 hour period. Plus 3 Y2K-related reactor glitches reported in Japan. And as I typ[e, were 35 minutes from rollover on UT or GMT.

For the record, Limerick 1/2 Power Plants are in Philadelphia, PA (I had to look it up)

~~~@~~~ --
San Onofre (near San Clemente, CA) is a nuke plant as well, I think.
I live in York County, South Carolina, home of the Catawba Station.
I called the Catawba Nuclear Station and spoke to someone who was not authorized to release information about the status of the plant. He referred me to a number for Duke Power in Charlotte, North Carolina. I spoke with someone in media relations there and they could only tell me that they tripped off line yesterday for reasons yet unknown and that the safety systems worked fine. They can only say that they will power up when it is safe to do so.
Sorry, but that's all the information I have, but things are fine here otherwise. Happy New Millenium!
