Who said this was about utility failures????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Is anyone really telling me that you thought the utilities were really going to fail? Who sold you that bill of goods? Did you prep only for utility failures?

Yes, I did think there was a (chance) for utility failures.

1) I thought there might be a few water failures. 2) I thought there was a very (slim) chance for electrical failures. 3) I thought the telephone (might) have some problems.

Yes, I have water stored and two generators and lots of food. Spent less for all of it than most of my insurance policies. That's what it was all about, insurance, right? You have heard before, you can eat your Y2K insurance.

Now, what if oil goes sky high or unavailable? My 900 gallons will come in handy. So, you didn't or couldn't store gasoline??? Well, you didn't really fully prep after all, did you????

What if things get FUBAR, like in fouled up, in the next month with many companies or banks? And we go into a recession or depression? Can you eat your food, drink your water, generate electricity, use your stored gasoline, diesel, or propane??

What if Russia, Iran, Iraq, Libya, China, Bin Laden, or some idiot or country nukes us? My gas masks and Potassium Iodate will same my family's life. What about your gas mask or Potassium Iodide or Iodate? Will they help save your life?

For you Christians or non-Christians, what will you do if we go into the Tribulation anytime soon? It's coming whether YOU believe it or not. Wonder if you might need stored food, water, generators, gas masks, Iodate or Iodide, or whatever survival insurance you have?

Get a life and wake up!!!!!!!!!! If you used any intelligence at all when you purchased your survival insurance, it was a good decision and you WILL need it sometime in the near future.

If you think this world is going to continue along, fat and happy, not a cloud in the sky, everyone getting rich in the market, tearing down and building at break-neck speed, then I HAVE SOME SWAMP LAND IN FLORIDA AND A BRIDGE IN BROOKLYN I WANT TO SELL YOU.......

Wake up and smell the roses! I would not sell 1 dime of my provisions, especially since Yeltsin is gone.

This world is a scary place and it's gonna get more scared as the days go on.

Keep your survival insurance. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your soul. And love your neighbor as yourself. And if you don't know who your neighbor is, go read about the Good Samaritan. (sp) And make sure your eternal destination is secure.

Don't you feel better already?

Finally, some one is thinking. I have always wondered why so many were paying attention to the power and water, etc. instead of the far more complex systems which run the banks and insurance companies, etc. These systems seem to be the most suseptible to the incomplete remediations and "non-critical" system failures. I think I'll just be glad I prepared for the worst. Besides, does anyone really think that the market can keep going and never correct, especially now that the Federal Reserve has flooded the market with cash? How long can that much cash stay out there without a large scale devalutation of the dollar? What will happen to the market when that cash is called back by the Fed. I am happy that the power is not off yet and the water still runs, but what about our paychecks next week or next month. Exciting times are upon us. I can't help remember what James said in the New Testament at James 5:1-6. I think I'll just wait on the Lord, and help as many as I can when the hammer does drop, AMD IT WILL DROP! Infrastructure sure includes more than utilities, and I have to say that I am more than a bit surprised at the rosey situation we currently seem to be facing, but only time will tell.

Do you at least acknowledge that your scenrio is strictly hypothetical. And most "doomer" hypothetical scenerios that involved today and the past couple of years haven't materialized (whenb I say most I'm being very generous).

Oh wait, I just read the rest of your post. You're sort of an extreme fellow. Sorry to have wasted your time.

And a reminder - we all gotta go sometime. You have to live too.

Enjoy,

If you allow yourself alcohol, have a couple extra and toast the new year with a hppy buzz. Even you've got reason to celebrate.

Yeah, Right (whatever@yousay.com),

Did I say Jesus was born 2,000 years ago? You brought that up. I will state that the 7,000 year plan of God relates to the 7 days of creation.

Problem is, we don't know how much the calendar is off?????? So get your facts straight before you fly off.

I was hoping that through all of this the wings of the "high flyers" might get clipped a bit. The world would be better off in my opinion. Their day is coming, hope it is soon.

BTW, I love all the creature comforts as much as anyone.

This may turn into a "Non-event," or it may not, Who for God sakes knows. One thing did for me in my preps, it taught me a lesson. When I started prepping I figured Gas would be the first thing to be hit with the hardest impact, so I bought a 55 gal drum and filled it. Paid two hundred smacks for a unit to draw it back out of the drum. Now I have my own station. Wish I had done this many years ago when gas was much cheaper. Now I will keep the drum filled with gas bought at a cheaper price, and use it when it is higher at the pump. Of course it wont last, but I will keep filling it with the gas at the cheaper price. Sure wish I had gotten several drums and did that years and years ago, Gas here in So Ga use to be the cheapest in the nation, Eighty cents a gal. Now it is one twelve. But I figure it will sky rocket when the shortages begin kicking in. I have some more drums now that I plan to fill.

As far as I know, the well known people who have studied and written about Y2K such as Ed Yourdon, Ed Yardeni, and Mr. Way of IEEE, have not thought that power and water would be a significant problem, especially on January 1 when demand is relatively low.

-- Dave (dannco@hotmail.com), December 31, 1999.

I began to be dismayed some time ago that so many folks had taken the attitude, "If we have electricity, that's all that really matters". I wrote about it in September, Y2K: Where are we Now? My concern then, as now, is with businesses, large and small.

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), December 31, 1999.

Dave, you are right. For instance, Yardeni wrote, December 13, 1999, "New Year's Day, a Saturday, should be uneventful. If problems occur, they are likely to crop up in the first three months of the year...." (Year 2000 Reporter)

Aw, come on, let us frollick in our polly naievety for at least New Years'........ we all know we're nowhere out of the woods yet....

Rest assured we'll be back to 'normal' on Monday; I'm just enjoying being polly for a day, first time in two years..........
