Potomac Electric surprise

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Just spoke with a friend in Tacoma Park who said his power company put notices on doors this morning advising customers to have flashlights and batteries on hand because they are unsure of their ability to provide power after rollover. Can anyone else confirm this? I believe it was Potomac Electric, although the friend, who is from Central America, may have botched the name. The notice was in English and Spanish.

Now how can the rest of the world be OK and Tacoma Park, MD, a PEPCO serviced area be worried about providing electricity? I'm obviously caught in a blue cloud stupor, but this smacks of something.

PEPCO serves me. Same county as Tacoma Park.

No notices here.

Kurt,

Could you check with your friend again concerning Takoma Park, MD. Just called a friend who has lived their for 35 years, and she did not receive any such notification. Yes, the power company for that area would be PEPCO (Potomac Electric Power Company).

Thanks, M.C.

I spoke with this gentleman about an hour ago after his brother-in- law, my best friend, called from the D.C. beltway with word of the notice. (He had just left Tacoma Park after having lunch with his siblings and in-laws). I then called Tacoma Park and spoke not only with the friend, but also his other brother-in-law, a fellow who works for the State Dept. in Kosovo. He confirmed the notice. So what gives? I dunno.

Why is it that brothers-in-law & their friends never have names like the rest of the human race?

I can vouch for Kurt Ayau. If he says he knows it, he knows it.

If you will email me your phone number, I will call you and give you my friend Pete's cell phone number. You can then call him and confirm it. Since I didn't ask his permission, nor that of his brother-in-law's, to post their full names and tel numbers, I won't do that. But email me with your phone # and I will call you. Okay?

I'll also vouch for Kurt--not that he needs it! :)

Late breaking correction: I'm on the phone with Pete right now and he says the notice was from the Montgomery County Dept of Public Works. Sorry for the incorrect info. But now I have it correct. thanks for the support, Ron and Don!

Gee...why is it that I don't think "have (noticed@this.lately]" will e-mail Kurt with a real name and phone number? Hmmm?
