Weather-related electrical outage in NZ.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), December 31, 1999.

The weather related power outage in NZ was pre roll-over, and occured to a water treatment plant in a town with a population of 3500 people. Power was restored in 15 minutes.

A one hour outage occured in Central Otago NZ when some idiot used a rifle to shoot out an insulator on a power line.

And the nuke plant was here in the USA... perhaps you would take notice that it *isn't* midnight here yet??? Or maybe it was just anticipating Y2K...

Two Canadian National Railway trains had a head-on collision east of Montreal last night. Keep in mind that most chips have been installed for years (and they don't all keep perfect time).

C-Span Blames Signal for Blackout The Associated Press Friday, Dec. 31, 1999; 1:40 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, architect of millennial festivities a year in the making, was about to claim her spotlight today when coverage on C-SPAN burped and went black.

While news reports on other stations declared smooth technical sailing in countries that had already tipped into 2000, C-SPAN's black screen marked the second time the cable station lost its feed of noontime opening ceremonies for the "America's Millennium" party put together by Clinton's White House Millennium Council.

A "garden variety signal problem" not the Y2K bug was to blame, a C-SPAN official said.

"There are dozens of television signals and cameras and pieces of equipment being deployed" to cover the countdown to 2000 and some are bound to have technical difficulties, the official added.

C-SPAN, a nonprofit cable network dedicated to the political process, planned to continue coverage of today's millennium events around Washington.
