Post At Fri Dec 31 05:19:27 CST 1999 (3) Amy and Colleagues,

I write this note to you sitting in the Tea Room of Broadcasting House, the global HQ of the BBC.

Despite my protestations, they have asked me to be here from New Zealand 23:59, until I get bored - "Just in case something happens".

I have told them many times that I suspect that this problem is systemic and cumulative, and thus most of the effects will not be noticed until later in January or even until March. Nevertheless they asked me to be here.

Well something DID happen (and NZ is still only at 23:00).

1. The main BBC TV studio failed first thing this morning. Internally they are blaming this on Y2K, but I doubt that they will cover this on the news. They have frantically been changing studios between all their programmes ever since.

2. Yeltsin resigned about an hour ago and so they have decided to leave me in the Tea Room.

So, I wait ...........

All the best to everyone on the technology treadmill.

Karl
