NZ/OZ Emergency Shipment Labeled False by IBM

Evidently the results of a thread below was picked up by Zone 2000 and was labeled false by IBM

Original Zone 2000 report......based on TBY2K thread?

Reports from IBM ordering that they are swamped with emergency orders for parts in New Zealand and Australia. Shipments are needed so urgently that the recipients cannot wait for FedEx or Airborne, and IBM is looking into chartering planes.

Later Zone 2000 Response:

NOTICE: The Zone 2000 Project just received word from Fred McNeese, an IBM representative, that the above report is bogus. So we would suggest you take this report, as well as all others, with a large grain of salt until they are verified.

The following is from IBM:

I request that you correct your completely erroneous report concerning an alleged IBM parts shortage in New Zealand and Australia. There is absolutely no truth to that report. IBM has no parts shortage in either country and I urge you to remove this report immediately. I suggest that you might want to check with me in the future before you print anything concerning IBM operations in Asia.

Boy...don't he sound like he's got his panties in a bunch tho, don't it?

Can't blame him when people are spreading lies about his company. But I forgot, we had 'verification' on this one.

But it proves that Familyguy was incorrect. Interesting that the only Y2K bugs so far have been false and not the other way around.

-- Jugster (Jugster@mywork.net), December 31, 1999.

Familyman's post was not about a parts shortage in these countries; it was about a parts shipment to them. A parts shortage is something that builds up over a period of time. Familyman's post deals with an emergency demand, as in Y2K. This denial is meaningless because it's not denying what was alleged.

I still think that Familyman was giving us accurate info.

He was sitting there, at work, at his computer, processing the orders as they came in.

Fred on the other hand is in Tokyo, probably celebrating the rollover, and gee, look what his title is.

This sounds like damage control with a little weight thrown in.

What lends more credibility to Familyman's posts are the fact that he posted his location.

Now I don't know how big the complex is where he works, but it would certainly be easy enough for IBM Goon squads to come in and determine who was working, at what station, and who was posting the report. I would hate to think that Familyman may have jeopardized his job trying to give us a real bit of truth.

Thanks Familyman for a report from the trenches

Art confirmed this Familyman report by calling the guy at his worksite and confirmed that the guy worked for IBM...

I think I smell corporate spin control here

Unless of course Art didn't tell us the truth... and I don't think Art would lie. He's had a good track record so far...

I've seen corporate spinners come and go. This sounds like a good one. A little bit of forkball thrown in to boot. IMHO.

Frankly how do we know this isn't a hoax also??? PROOF???
