Failures will occur-stay calm

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

For those of you "see I told you so nuts"....lets look at some facts. Embedded systems are only the first indicator of a plethora of potential Y2K issues. Most embedded issues will involve sequencing type events. Failures could already be starting or have started but until these PLC's or black boxes actually have to do their switching event nothing will be obvious. If we don't see systems failures for hours or even days means very little. It ain't over till the fat lady sings, and trust me when its all said and done there's gonna be some major issues. Also, any low to mid level failure in systems will be on spin patrol. You don't think the majors NBC, CBS etc. are going to allowed to start any panics after the full scale spin doctors have spent so much time keeping the world sedate.

If Y2K Ends up being a big yawn (by March 12th say) I will publicly show my real name and e-mail, and all those pollies out there can spam me with insults till their fingers drop off.

Hang tight folks.....it hasn't even begun to rain.

I'm coming out of lurking status to state simply, what a moron YOU are for a post like this. Does your pathetic mindset actually mean that much to where you need to root, root, root for a series of problems.

Who cares about your 'real-identity'? You certainly ARE a jackass of the first division.

Well said, and nuff said.

I don't see him rooting for problems, only qualifiedly predicting them. Save your flames.

ROY boy

Well I'm glad to see I got one intelligent response. In case you are really interested I have no desire what's so ever to see major failures. I've spent the last 3 years of my life in programmers hell to try and prevent such. What is irresponsible is the clowns out there who have no concept for the potential issues and life threatening effects these issues create and have convinced good red blooded Americans and all the other honest aspects of this human race that all is well. It is probably idiots like you that will go down in the history books as the "fools of Babylon".

I was once uninformed like you. Reality is a hard place to visit.

Uninformed, eh Polly? You must be kidding, right? Please, do not suppose to know anything about me or confuse me with the other camp you seem to be at war with here? You are the worst kind of huckster with this type of pap. Who do you think you are kidding and what do you adventures in programming have to do with the overall picture? The answers...nobody and nothing. Polly, if you wish to keep the sheep here panic stricken well beyond tomorrow, that is indeed your business but I'll take your posting for what it is: opportunistic, camp-baiting, 'hey, we ain't out of this yet' schlock.

Seems apparent that even a moron like you can work on remediation behind a keyboard.

Sorry Roy is I've mis-judged you. In most peoples book if you talk like an ass you probably are one.

"Reality is a hard place to visit."

Excellent thought there P-M. And that applies to whatever reality is.

IOW - the truth, no matter where it takes us.

Good, bad or no significant changes, it makes no difference. The truth is still the truth.

The aspect of many Pollyanna positions that I find most disturbing is that they seem, in most cases, to blow off the importance of potential damage, misprogramming, failure to properly test, etc.

Is this the type of illogic that drunk drivers use to justify take their cars out for a spin? Well, the chance of an accident is only 40%, luck will be with me. But what if it isn't? What then?

snooze button, where does it say that I am a polly, or like the moron known as polly-morphic, do you feel you can read through the screen? Polly morphic basically knows sh*t, first and foremost. I didn't come here to gloat, if that's your point. Instead, I wanted to see how things were progressing around the globe and am treated to this garbage. I am an avowed fence-sitter on this issue and am heartened by today's news. Who are you to pass judgment on ANYONE?

While your words about pollys may be appropriate, it is just as appropriate to state that the doom mentality is to keep the fear nand loathing running smoothly...that all news about systems running smoothly MUST somehow be a lie or media manipulation.

Who do you think you are fooling?

Well, polly, we know it's hard, but you just have to keep trying anyway.
