I also saw that, did you notice the "official" statement was no incidents of any significance have been reported. If you didn't notice the yellow dot on the map, you would have missed this report. Interesting!

Also, their clock on the web site is 1 hour out ..... Or is it Netscape 4.7 under Linux doing wierd things ....

Got it - The time on the map on the front of the site is not 'real time'. So their reporting is really over an hour out ....

I wouldn't read too much into that...

However, Peter Jennings just said, almost under his breath, that there were brief power outages in Auckland and Wellington, but they only lasted a few minutes...

Maybe not, but I would be surprised if .gov didn't use a reporting time lag to their advantage.

Very interesting. I think if there was any problems, they wouldn't report it anyway...or, they will spin it and make it sound good.
