The time is now 00:20 on 1/1/2000. The lights are still on, the phone still works. And I'm shortly going to bed. Happy New year to all.

Congratulations and a happy new year to you Malcolm. Just seen it on CNN. So far so good. New Zealand is comparable in many ways to my Denmark, in many ways (though without the dodgy neighbours, the Baltics, Eastern Europe etc.). Still, it bodes well - the 'nightmare' scenarios may soon be behind us. And thanks a million for the great contribution you made to my understanding of Y2K and power.

Go get some slumber mate, you deserve it.

Good to hear from you, Malcolm. First baby, too, at 12:14. Here's wishing you continued success

Somewhat later . . . the news services are reporting no significant problems in NZ or Australia. It's looking good so far. :)

Less than 30 minutes after I posted my previous message, the lights went off. The time was 00:41. I went outside and the only lights I could see anywhere were along the top of the dam, and from a few cars driving along the nearby highway. Naturally I went to bed (in the dark) trying to rack my brains thinking about what could have happened. What did we miss.

When I arrived at work this morning I expected to hear the worst, but apparently the outage was just confined to our immediate area, and lasted 1 hour. The cause was sabotage on the power line from the dam to our small town. Someone's cruel idea of a joke for the new year.

Malcolm
