Date glitch hits "Star Trek" site

Time travel has always been a popular theme on the TV series "Star Trek," but this time they may be going farther than expected.

Apparently the result of the Year 2000 technology glitch, it appears that the crew of the starship Voyager will travel back to 1900, or at least that's when the next episode will air.

Paramount's Star Trek Web site lists upcoming episodes, including title, cast members and air date. Information on the site list's next week's episode, "Fair Haven," as airing Jan. 1, 1900.

Paramount was not immediately available for comment about the mistaken air date, which is likely the result of a Y2K-related computing error. The Y2K technology bug is a programming glitch that can cause some un-prepared computers to mistake the year 2000 for 1900.

Past episodes in Paramount's Star Trek Voyager database appear unaffected by the date gaffe.

In the new episode, Voyager Captain Kathryn Janeway becomes entangled with a holographic character.

I thought the good Captain Janeway said that records showed that Y2K passed without so much as a flicker of a light bulb.

I guess records from that era were spotty at best. Or some clueless polly PR writers didn't tell their technical guys running the computer that Y2K didn't exist.
