I check all the local stores this afternoon and found no D Cell batteries at Wal Mart, K-Mart, Dollar General. The lady at the local Dollar General Store told me that the supply truck came this morning and the shelf was empty by 12 noon

Sam's (Washtenaw Co., Mich.) had huge stacks of batteries as of yesterday morning. I wasn't looking for D-cells, but I'm pretty sure they were there.
