Robert,

Mr. Doomers S*** appears obsessed with what we say about electrical power. He / she appears perfectly articulate and at times overly polite. He posted another thread about Georgia utilities and apparently made a small error. In recognizing his error he said My apologies. That doesnt seem to fit with the handle Doomers S***.

Maybe youre on to something about staff-writers.

This is my first time at this site, and I am rather amused with Doomer. I'm sure that it has been said already, but what makes you think you can trust Ga. Power to give you a completely fair assessment of its Y2K computer compliance status? Sorry. I don't. ComEd couldn't keep power going in Chicago this past summer -- you think I trust them now? Nope!

...and today, and day before, they can say (or claim) anything on any site they wish.....we will see over the next few weeks if what "they" have written is accurate, or if "they" should have recommended a measure of caution and preparedness.

Just because "they" - at any site, at any level - "say" something to fullfill their self-serving ends doesn't mean it is true - whatever "is" is anyway. And truth hasn't mattered to this government in the past 8 years - nor before, so why should we begin trusting them now?

Hey, took GA power 13 1/2 hours to e-mail their denial of the FAX to the State Trooper. Yep, real credible denial...I wouldn't wanna be in GA right now.

Robert Cook:

I hope you can keep us posted on what happens there?

Doomers suck, perhaps you could explain why Will James, a former VP of PSCO, the primary elecricity generator/provider for our state of Colorado and a co-chairman of the governors y2k task force issued no less than 3 warnings in his statements to the press. The article can be found at

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/business/1205y2k1.shtml

warning no. 1 "Everything may be just fine Dec. 31," James said. "But if things do go wrong, I think people should know what happened. We (the governor's task force) tried to do the right thing for the families and businesses of Colorado. But what started out as an 'all- for-one' type of approach has ended as an every man and industry for himself situation."

warning no. 2 ...James hopes Dec. 31 arrives and departs smoothly, with no interruptions in electric or phone service. He also is urging everyone he knows to have enough batteries, food and water on hand to last 72 hours. If the wheels come off the system, we will have done a real disservice to the people of Colorado," James said.

warning no. 3 "Without a state-sponsored independent audit and detailed examination of the readiness of these organizations," James wrote in a report to the task force last month, "a guarantee of Y2K readiness in the energy sector cannot be made to the citizens of Colorado at this time."

It looks like all is not necessarily well in the utility industry. Thankfully, we do not have much longer to find out.

Bully for us all, and may you be right. I don't think that is the case.
