Numbers for URL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

Hi Folks:

There has been a lot of talk on many different forums about sites going down or people wanting the combination of numbers for any URL. If you will email me privately, I will send you an executable file (EXE) called PING. It came with Windows98 and is located in the windows directory. It works best using DOS. I just open a MS-DOS prompt window and type "ping enegyland.com" and the numbers are printed out. Gary North and a few others fear that there may be trouble with the letter URLs after the rollover so you might want to have this program available.

How do you use the numbers. I tried garynorth.com and have had no luck in getting his site up. I tried the ping and it returned some nu mumbers, but what do I do with them?

Hey Bob, go to your address window at top and back everything out so it is blank. Enter Gary's numbers only - 206.67.48.127 and hit enter, bingo!
