AP Corrects Soc. Security Y2K Story

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Associated Press reported erroneously Tuesday that Social Security checks for January would be mailed earlier to guard against unforeseen problems associated with the Y2K computer bug.

In fact, the Social Security Administration delivered the checks to post offices a day early, but recipients will receive them on their normal date, which is Jan. 3.
