MSNBC spot about y2k coverage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

Criminy, MSNBC just ran a little spot/ad which shows quick clips of people celebrating, clock counting down, etc with the voices of people counting down and when they hit zero the screen says something like 'nothing to worry about' then 'what if they're wrong' and then quick clips of people taking money out of banks, pulling bottled water off the shelf, etc. Whole thing is maybe 30 seconds, its a promo for their upcoming coverage of the rollover.

I have seen several of these types of ads on several news stations in the last two days. Are the news stations stupid? Are they trying to get people antsy ?.

Of course they're trying to make people nervous.

Panicky people racing around in a frenzy makes for compelling footage which will cause more people to watch which will cause more people to get nervous which will cause them to race around in a frenzy which makes for compelling footage which will cause more people to watch which will....

Wonder what advertising air time is going for this weekend?

Antsy, maybe. But make money? You Bet!! That's always been the name of the game, hasn't it? Make money---lots and lots of it.

And put off those big 'rework the computer' jobs until it's too late.

And now, the media can blame us all for using the phones at the same time and 'crashing the system'. And preparing too heartily and 'creating shortages'. And taking our money from banks and 'creating cash problems', too.

Two days to go---God bless us every one.

Well, from what I am seeing and hearing, million-dollar-a-night hotel rooms are now $1.98. Lavish half-a-million dollar parties (with horns) are now 50 cents each. Air line tickes, they are paying you to fly, so much a head.

Someone is worried about something, and it ain't just us. This whole Millinnium Event is so far a bust! Israel has cancelled everything but fighting. Paris is a no-go, blown away. London is under martial law for all intents. So, what's a little tv ad?
