Y2K Problem possibly at retail store

On Monday night while walking through a local shopping mall, one of the stores, I beleive was either The Foot Locker or Athelete's Foot had the crates pulled down because they were unable to do any business due to a Y2K problem with their registers. How do I know this you are probally asking yourself. I could see the register and it stated Y2K problem, plus the clerks were on the phone, most likely calling the technical support. Has anybody witnessed any problems with any of the retail stores in their areas.

The register actually STATED it was a Y2K problem? I thought the Y2K computer problem centered around the fact that older hardware/software didn't know anything ABOUT Y2K. Besides, if the clerks were on the phone with tech support, you better believe all they knew was, "Well, the dang thing ain't workin'." In my experience, a cashier's knowledge of computer register problems is rather limited.

From what I could make out, it appeared to say Y2K. I might have misread it, but I do not think I did.

We've had similar problems with stores in our area also.
