Review of Fuji MX-1200

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

In your review of the Fuji you mention several times that the camera has a fixed focus lens. At present Fuji consumer service insists that the lens on the MX-1200 is autofocus. Having grown to put more stock into your reviews than some manufacturer's claims, I'm wondering whether Fuji has gone to an autofocus lens in the Mx-1200 since your review of the preproduction model or whether the folks in Fuji's consumer service dept are misinformed. We were considering purchasing this camera until we read in your review that the lens was of the fixed focus variety.

I am very confident it is autofocus. When I use the LCD as the viewfinder and move from near subjects of 3 ft. to 10 or 12 ft. it definetely autofocuses based on viewing the LCD. Not sure this proves the issue but the confidence level is high!

they probably meant fixed focal length.

Actually I think we meant fixed focus, but might have been wrong. We still have the MX-1200 laying around here, I'll try to check it out further. (Also in the middle of a server move, so no promises on getting it done...)
