greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

My wife called her family in Mindanao. The Philippine National Bank will stay open all weekend to accomadate all the people who are withdrawing their money. Long lines all through the Philippines. If this is reported in the news it could cause the same here.

"If this is reported in the news it could cause the same here."

Probably not. Since when do we care what the Philipinos do? They celebrate Good Friday every year by nailing themselves to crosses. We in the West do not care to emulate them.

Actually most Americans couldn't locate the Philippines on a map, & even I don't know how to spell it correctly.

What an ignoramous. The Philippines play a large part in the semiconductor industry, and if you don't care about them you'd better hope you don't have any investments in NASDAQ stocks. Not to mention the fact that they are human beings like most of us (excluding yourself, of course).

Der Schlickmeister and his inbred felons in the media will make sure this hits the networks. This plays right into his hand so he can declare marshall law and further his socialist agenda of total governmental control.

If you're going to be a far right wacko misinformed idiot, at least learn how to spell martial law.

WeReallyDontCare --

You spelled Philippines just fine. Does that make the rest of your comment wrong, too?

They don't care what Filipinos do, correct. They care what their neighbors who have money in their bank will do, after they see the Filipinos on TV?

Feel lucky, punk? Do ya?

And those of us with Filipino neighbors (got a VERY diverse neighborhood) read this news with some interest as well.

I just looked at several of the Manila newspaper, TV and radio sites - - (it's about 7am Thursday there -- no mention of it. Any update?

jor-el:

You're looking in the wrong place. The *title* of this thread is that a bank run is on. The *content* merely said one bank plans to be open all weekend, just in case. Mellon bank plans to do the same, so perhaps someone should start a thread titled "Bank Runs On In Pennsylvania"!

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), December 29, 1999.

Well, Flint, I plan on running to MY Pennsylvania bank tonight!

-- Faith Weaver (suzsolutions@yahoo.com), December 29, 1999.

According to my limited understanding, a bank run results in a bank collapse. I haven't read about any yet. I'll wait and see if power grid failures hex the connections. Until then, stockpile for your family, friends and neighbors! 8^)

Flint --

That's what I saw, but our poster's message states: "Long lines all through the Philippines". Perhaps this is merely predictive, something he expects will happen during the weekend. That's why I found nothing.

Gotta go -- back later tonight...
