Rumors ...beware

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

From here on out I think we will be seeing ( along with real problems ) a lof of unverified posts concerning many things that can tend to cause worry and fear. Let's try to quickly separate the wheat from the chaff.

It would be nice. Very few posts seem to have cited sources, with the exception of Beanfang and a few select others.

"I SWEAR you will find out that you have been manipulated by the doomer slant of this board, and you will apologize to your family and friends, and then you will HATE Yourdon and North's guts."

I don't hate anyone, currently.

But if I were to hate someone, it would probably be someone like LadyLogic.

Ladylogic.... Wheather y2k is a BITR or not, it should be obvious that the manipulation has been from from other sources..not us doomers. And I certainly don't feel that we are out of the woods yet just because those same sources tell me we are. AND we have always said our preparation was necessary because of the vast possibilities of serious problems. If it turns out to be a BITR I still blame TPTB for not preparing the public for something as potentially harmful as y2k. Furthermore, Many of these same naysayers will be hunkered in a bunker for this 'non-event' Why?

I'm not trying to be a troll, or anything like hat , however, I think that I have to agree with Lady Luck on this one. Case in point, the current thread on possible GA power problems. Now this in fact may or may not be true, but I for one would like to have better conformation on it than "heard this from the friend of a friend". I'm sorry, but that's just not good enough to go on at this point. I live in the Atlanta area and I've been making trips to boh Home Depot and Lowes to get ready, but I've seen or heard nothing at all that would indicate such a problem as is being described here.

Why respond to her at all...She'll be in jail before the end of the week at the rate she's going...

Just Fine,

Don't you see? Ay, there's the 'rub'! You live in Atlanta, have been shopping and haven't seen anything out of the ordinary, or to equal what has been posted here.

Why should anyone believe that? Not arguing, just asking.

I've witnessed several 'interesting' things over the last two days that don't parallel what you've experienced. Does the fact that I saw what I saw (but doesn't coincide with what you saw) negate what I say? Oftentimes, things don't happen simultaneously. Haven't you ever heard other people talking about something they've seen, heard, etc., and you are completely clueless? It's like a lot of things in life - until you experience something first hand, it's easy to discount other people's information.
