Brag about your holiday haul

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Squishy : One Thread

Yeah, it's a selfish topic. But after all of the giving and giving and giving it's time to talk about yourself. Did you get the perfect gift this year? Is your head all big from giving the perfect gift? Who did you make cry? Are you still weeping? Need to thank Santa for anything?

Well, my best present from this Christmas has to be my engagement ring!! My boyfriend, excuse me..fiance, gave it to me and felt bad that I only had three more to open after that. he's such a sweetie. I made sure to tell him that I didn't expect the ring and it's not the quantity, it's the thought. So yeah me.

And my mom totally spoiled me this year with $400.00 worth of clothes that I didn't even ask for. My list this year consisted of books and CD's, so needless to say, I had a rocking Christmas.

*didn't even have to return anything I bought or exchange anything. hehe

My boyfriend finally bought me the leather biker jacket of my dreams! It's gorgeous black leather with all the zippers, studs and lace-bits (on the side for extra conformity) that a Ramones wanna-be could ever dream of. This is in addition to the Tiffany angel lamp, oil lamp, and flourescent blacklight fixture he gave me. He seems to have a "light" theme to his presents this year!

That was just stupid. I can't believe I screwed up the HTML so badly on my first post.

My 2-months-pregnant sister got the best present in our house. Her eyes alight with anticipation, she opened up the huge Waterford Crystal box to reveal... a giant white plastic bowl marked "Spit-up Bowl" for her morning sickness. My mother was SO proud of herself for that little dupe.

I got a baby. Top that, I dare you.

I got tickets to Rent. Okay, it doesn't top a baby, but if you knew how much Jeremy hates musicals, you'd know what a big deal this is. And it was a complete surprise, so I cried and hugged him and all that jazz.

At least my tickets don't dirty their diapers, Rob. So there.

I got a webcam from my parents :) Too bad I'm a big giant LAME and cant figure out how to hook the thing up. I need to call a tech today. ugh! Other than that I got an assortment of buddah beads, clothes, gift certificates and videos. My spoiled daughter on the other hand raked in almost every single board game on earth made for children 5 and under. We have played them all over and over. I guess all went well because I didnt ask Santa for anything this year and I still got cool stuff :)

I got a new computer desk, which I had been talking about doing myself next year since I need to reorganize my home office. Now I'll have a desk to play games on and my old heavy wood desk for writing.
Also some new clothes, and excellent entertainment: the new Beck and Dr. Dre CDs, The Wall on DVD, NBA2K for Dreamcast, some Hugo Boss.
It was a lovely haul. And I still haven't even used the Book People and Best Buy gift certificates!

(Quick meta-update on hit and run: I tracked MY TAHO down. I hired a lawyer today [it says in their Yellow Pages ad "aggressive litigation" -- get 'im boys!!] and I'm in a nice rental car until I can look at getting some new wheels. All in all, things are great, and my neck feels lots better. Thanks for your concern, Pamie & Squishiites!)

My husband's parents gave us an eight day trip to Florida, including four days in the Bahamas. I have never been to Florida or the Bahamas so I am thrilled.

My husband bought me clothes that he picked out himself. So I will love them and wear them proudly.

I, like another reader above, also liked everything I received and will not need to return anything.

The best gift I received however was our plane tickets to visit my family in California. I don't see them enough, so it was special.

My parents gave me a beautiful CEDAR CHEST. Ungrateful cynic that I am, my first thought upon unwrapping it was "Jeez, this must be for my dowry - they will marry me off yet."

I got some really special things this Christmas. This sweetheart of a man I have only known for one month got me a great art book and some good smelly stuff from the bath shop. What makes this special is he picked up on my interest in art when it wasn't something I talked about a lot. I was really shocked. He also gave me an oil lamp that matches my kitchen. He also gave me a big stuffed Pepe Lepew (which I collect, and I got this early cuz I was siiick, hee hee)

The best part was getting to see my parents for the holiday. I haven't spent Christmas with them in a couple years.

Nothing I got was particularly thrilling, but my husband and I recently signed a contract to build a house so most of what we got were items for the new house, which was cool (even though it won't be ready 'til next fall).

I got my husband's family's traditional gag gift which is some tacky little pressed butterfly thing. I've been assured I don't have to display it, but I do have to save it and it's box to pass on next year.

My husband's mom got a gag gift that turned out to be the day's favorite- a 5-foot catfish pillow. Everyone kept asking where Thor found it. One of my husband's uncles fell asleep on the couch holding it.

I was very spoiled with material things this year, something I am becoming more aware of as others tell me what they received. But, my best gift, with no offense to all the others, was a small envelope from my best friend, which contained photos of her in the Race For The Cure in Portland this fall. Wrapped around the photos was her placard, saying she was running in honour of me! Tears all over the place, even as I write this now. Thanks lise!

eventhough my hubby and i cancelled christmas this year, we did get some nice things from the folks. i think the neatest part, and this isn't to get all oprah on anyone, was talking with my mom about her father and her childhood. not something i know a whole lot about, and something that's rather painful for her. i felt like she really trusted me, and that was a wonderful feeling.

we did get a portable cd player, and got pulled over for speeding while listening to "fear of a black planet." anyone listen to this recently? it's a hoot. (i've no idea what all the fuss was about years ago, with public enemy. i was in tears!)

have a great evening....

I got tickets to the Bruins-Maple Leafs game at the Fleet Center, fourth row back from the ice... *drool*...

I got a Sony Playstation and 2 games from my boyfriend, as well as our favorite perfume that i had run out of months ago, and some flannel pjs and slippers to match. From family and "in-laws" i got plenty of new clothes which came in handy since i haven't done laundry in about two weeks.

I was thrilled that my boyfriend was so genuinely shocked and happy with the color printer that i got for him as well as a chrome flask full of Jack Daniels.

I think the best gifts though were the Xmas card he gave me - both the words on the card and the words he added himself melted me - and an apology. An apology? Yes, he apologized because he wanted to get me a ring (yes, THE ring) for Xmas but he couldn't afford the one he wanted right then and he wasn't going to "cheap out" on me even though he knows i dont give a hoot about diamond sizes or costs and would wear a Cracker Jack ring.

Happy new year!

oh my god, i am so jealous you have bruins tickets, FOURTH ROW BACK!!! i have never had seats that good... that aside, my favorite presents were: the toolbox for the back of my pickup from my dad (and the anchor system for my truck, too) and the chaps and tom thumb spurs from my mom. what can i say, horse girls need pickups and tool boxes and anchor systems and chaps and spurs... :) i also got equestrian barbie. i'm 20, but my mom said she couldn't resist, so barbie is now happily sitting in my room, proudly displ

the coolest present i received this year, was an audrey hepburn doll dressed in a breakfast at tiffany's outfit. perfect, since the former is my favorite actress, and the latter is my favorite movie. i'm not a doll collector, but it was just such a random, thoughtful, supercool gift that it really *made* my christmas morning.

I need to thank my mother for the cow-spotted furry car seat covers I got. That's one of the best presents ever (except for the Christmas she got me a flute after tormenting me for the whole year and telling me she'd never buy me one). And my sister got me "S & M" (Metallica and the San Francisco orchestra, for those living under a rock), which made me jump up and down with glee and squeal like a stuck pig out of excitemnet. The rest of my Christmas loot can be found here, even if that list makes me look like a selfish little troll.

I got TWO babies. So neener neener neener.

(Technically, I did, but I got them in 1981 and 1984, respectively, ruining an otherwise idealistic infancy and toddlerhood.)

I got a great haul of books and clothes and toys, but my best present was a sky chair. My husband remembered how much I liked it at Ren Faire last summer, kept the brochure we picked up oh-so-many months ago and, now that we have a place to put it, ordered it directly from the company.

Well I got a walkman and a couple of other things I wanted. My bf was so cute, he wrapped all my presents in big boxes so I had no idea what they were

I had a good haul... Photoshop 5.5, KPT 6 for hours of graphic fun. The Matrix, the Harry Potter books (yeah, yeah, I'm 24. Sue me.) A Sensa pen... If you haven't seen these, go to your local stationers and hold one. You'll never put it down.

Assorted gift certs.

My mother is evil. This year, all the presents under the tree marked with my name were actually for my stepfather, and those marked for him were really for me. Doh! So much for all the shaking and prodding ;) She fell into her own trap tho, and had to play santa on the morning, confusing herself all day :)

Let's see.....I got bronchitis for Christmas. AGAIN! But I also got an oh so lovely coach purse I've been wanting since Jesus was a boy.....some emperio armani...the new DMB cd, not once but 3 times...the new metallica cd...depeche mode's violator cd 'cause it walked away from my car one day several years ago....a charm braclet (are they coming back in?)...some picture frames..sheets..candles.. girlie girl stuff....and a weekend trip to las vegas 'cause I think my parents are sick of hearing me say that I've never been there every time someone mentions it. Do you think they listen when I say I've never been to Ireland? Me, either.
