MOST FOLKS ARE MOVING TO THE BACKUP TBY2K FORUM

greenspun.com : LUSENET : HumptyDumptyY2K : One Thread

Folks,

You're welcome to continue using this forum for any discussions you want (though the #&(*&^@^!! trolls will be deleted as fast as I can hit the delete key!).

However, it seems that most everyone has moved over to the Time Bomb Y2000 Rollover/Backup forum, which Diane has set up

here

Thanks for all the kind wishes extended to the sysops -- several of them worked late into the night to put things back together after the robot "attack" on the main forum...

Hey Ed,

Any chance of pressing charges againt the attackers?

As an aside, I have to tell you that while I most certainly appreciate Phil Greenspun for host this mess for so long I think it is really POOR FORM to pull the plug so close to rollover. I'm sure he could have stuck it out for another 72 hours. If I were ever interested in purchasing ANYTHING from him I most definitely am not now...

TECH 32,

At this point, we don't know if it was a deliberate attack, or just an unfortunate coincidence that four or five people started running robot programs to download the entire forum at more-or-less the same time. Perhaps Phil will be able to figure that out...

It turns out that we have a reasonably up-to-date copy of the archives, so even if the original forum never comes up again, we haven't lost very much at all. Meanwhile, the most important thing is the community of people who have been sharing ideas and information for the past two years; and it was reassuring to see how quickly we were able to get that community moved over to a new home.

Ed, this is a bit off topic for this thread, but I don't know how much more I will be online. A power surge here just kicked off all the breakers in the house. *Son isn't here, lucky to have gotten the VCR/TV up and going again* :-)

Ed, thanks, thanks alot. I have seen how every word on TB2000, and other sources, you say is scrutinized for meaning and taken out of context or used to represent the "readers" meaning, instead of yours. And you kept on plugging away. Makes it kind of hard to express humor and have a bit of fun along the way doesn't it? And you are dealing with the same concern's as all of us, and humor has certainly been my crutch through it all.

Best to you and yours, and do take good care.

I'm glad to see all the electronic refugees have made it over as well.

You know, the sad thing here is that I suggested some months back that Phil make the forum available on CD on a subscription basis. I certainly would have paid $29.95 a month to get EVERYTHING on one, text searchable disk. I'm sure a few hundred others would have as well. Had he done that he would have had more than enough money to buy a new machine...

TECH 32: Good idea.

How many CD-ROMs would it take to collect every archive?

I cannot get through to the backup forum...I'll continue to try throughout the evening...

Do you think it is the same people that is putting out the every thing is ok with y2k that is attacking these discussion boards?

Dino,

You should be able to fit the entire main forum on a single CD.
