Y2K Stockpiling Mentioned on The Weather Channel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

One of The Weather Channel's forecasters (Jim ???) just mentioned how he'd gone grocery shopping and there wasn't any bread left, little water and few flashlights...

Sounds like the herd is beginning to stir.

Where's their studio?

I think they are on the east coast...maybe North Car.

I think The Weather Channel is headquartered in the northern suburbs of Atlanta.

Yep - They are just north of Atlanta in Vinings, GA.

BTW- the herd is stirring a bit here in GA, but not too much. I just picked up 2 25lb propane tanks last night, and there were several of them available (20?).

Bottled water is getting tight, as is some bulk canned goods...

Buckle up folks, the ride has begun....

The Weather Channel's headquarters are in Atlanta. I can echo the forecaster's mention of short supplies...as my final prep trip to the local Wal-Mart just south of Atlanta indicated large shortages of the standard provisions..i.e. NO water...very limited propane fuel...no 5 gallon gas containers...etc. I also noted with interest and some surprise that while paper products, storage containers, blankets and propane heaters were in abundance...bottled drinks (Gatorade, Ocean Spray, and especially orange juice) were nearly depleted. It seems the DGI's are treating this as a three day storm scenario and buying staple products. Either that or they're very thirsty.
