You might not be doing anything wrong... I have the same DVD player and it plays everything I put in it (CD-i movies, VCD's, CD-R's, etc). You might have a faulty player, though you may want to try a variety of CD-R's/CD-RW's before repair/replacement. Good luck!

If you can, try playing your created VCDs on another player first to see where the problem lies. Maybe you missed a step or two in creation; it's unlikely your 525 is defective (although that can be possible). In any case in Pioneer's DVD set-top lineup they seem to get confused when playing VCDs that have still images (such as karaoke menus) accompanied by sound. The sound will always play, but no pix. Very fortunately nearly all VCDs with menus I've encountered (karaoke and otherwise) there is no accompanying sound on the menus so no problems. As for the VCDs I create I use VideoPack's interface which lets you drag the bitmaps to the creation, no .wavs or anything needed so they always properly on such players like 525. Xing allows encoding of still images, but only at 352x240/352x288, and only with sound, which will not play back properly on Pioneer but is okay on Philips. VideoPack allows stills up to 704x480/704x576; no sound required; great for slideshows on Pioneer, Philips, etc.

I to have the 525 and it seems to play vcds i make quite well. Try another player as it was previously mentioned. You might have a faulty player. my friend just got the 525 this past Wed and when plugged in didnt do anything at all, the system was compltely dead and he returned it for a new one. I mentioned tyhat becasue of the holiday time a lot of companies will "push" out as many machines as possible, and yours might have been part of a bad batch.

i have heard of the Nero but i am using the adaptec easy cd creator 4 and it does vcds just fine. I also use the NIT cd maker pro and they come out good as well. Maybe the Nero is screwing something up?????

Scotty

Thank god someone else has found the same faults that I reported here months ago with the Pioneer 525, choppy sound etc.

Actually I found that the cd-r media was a lot more critical and in my tests only Mitsui Golds actually made it on the Pioneer 525. That of course is one of the reasons I did not buy - but I tried first so that I got something that suited my home brewed vcd's from the start.

Obviously the "best" is not always the best in all situations. I found Nero fixed a lot of my original problems but I have not actually re tested Pioneer after paying out the dollars.

Nero is available from:

Cheers, you all have a good 2ky change over!

Doug thats what happened with Sony in this country, I tried one and 6 weeks later the same model would not even play my VCD's - so why not with Pioneer???????? Frustrating!
