Z51 and Photo Glossy Paper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am using a Lexmark Z51 printer with excellent results printing images taken with my DigiCam. Does anyone have a specific recommendation on what brand of Photo Glossy paper works the best with this printer?

Thanks

Boy do these papers vary - so be careful and don't judge the output until you have tried at least 3 or 4 different papers. For example: HP makes Photosmart Paper, and Premium Glossy Photo paper. Put Photosmart paper in one of their photosmart printers and the result can be awsome. Use Premium Glossy Photo paper and the result is just awfull!
I've tried Kodak Inkjet Photo paper with very good results. I recommend it generally. You will, however, have to try it in your printer to judge for yourself. Fortunately they make a very inexpensive and convenient sample pack. You can get it at CompUSA, Office Depot, Office Max or Best Buy.
There are others - Mitsubishi makes some nice looking packages of paper I've been meaning to try....

Pictorico claims new technology for their papers that make them much more compatible with a range of printers. I have a sample pack, but haven't tried it. I was speaking with folks at a camera company though, and they were very enthusiastic about it. (Can't say who though, as they're going to be private-branding it and haven't announced yet.)

I've been trying a variety of papers. Have to agree with what Des said above. The manufacturers seem to be developing different weights, finishes, brightnesses every week - especially for inkjets. I think I have a processing formula all set and "the rules change"! One paper that I've been really pleased with is Matte Finish Imaging and Photo Paper for inkjet by Great White - 37 lb. It has a slick, smooth, ultra white finish. Does a beautiful job with photos. It's also great for printing both sides - I'm putting text and photos on both sides very successfully - no bleed-through. (About $10 for 100 sheets!)

You might want to try Red River Paper. They have a sample kit also. I think they have 6 or 7 glossy papers. I use their Frio gloss with lots of success. Here's their web site: www.redriverpaper.com

I use a Lexmark 5700 that uses a very similar engine and printer feed machanism.

Epson paper seems to work well in my machine, but favorite is Val- Hues paper available from Jessops on the Web. They do a very heavy (240gsm ish from memory)glossy paper.

I did have a minor problem with exit rollers as the springs were too tight and slightly scratched the paper surface (common problem on many printers whatever the make, with heavier papers).

This was easily corrected by slightly bending the spring mechanism back.

I read a review on this paper a while back that claimed the surface had a built in UV filter? Anyone else heard this?
