Phil Shut Down TB2000 and Prep Forum Due to Excess Traffic -- People Archiving, like ME!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : HumptyDumptyY2K : One Thread

I'm horrified. Are there others or was just my friend on the Teleport Pro and a cable modem? On the one hand, we stopped. On the other it shows a major vulnerability. Can we get it back. I'll die to be responsible for this.

I believe Phillip posted his list of demands to restart that board...

Sounds like the techies think it was a professional hit, not you:)

Dancr

I tried it a while ago and picked up the rest of Phils site along with the forum. It is a tricky thing to manage.

Hopefully the site will pop back up, Diane is giving Phil a call in the morning to see what is going on.

Time will tell.

I'm wondering if it really is LadyLogic or some other similar creature. I don't know but am speculating that a lot of people started using a spider to download TB2000. I noticed a thread on the issue and someone posted the exact instructions on how to do that as many were floundering. I noticed things begin to deteriorate slowly after that so my guess is that more and more started spiders and trashed the server.

Perhaps the sysops can create a zip file of TB2000/TB2000 prep and keep it on a separate FTP server where we can download from. Perhaps some other user has a fat server and pipe where the zip files can be put until after the rollover if the TB2000 server and pipe would still get clogged with large down loads like these. (I hear we're talking 500MB for the two of them - I'd like to get a copy since I have a fat pipe for downloads).

People downloading content do NOT change the root password on the server.

I've created a ONEList forum for backup communications.

Membership is NOT open -- this means "ladylogic" and her ilk will be denied access, and if they slip through, their accounts will be cancelled.

To join, sign up at http://www.onelist.com/community/TB2000-Alternate.

Will deal in the morning. The Sysops still have access to TBY2K through the Admin s/w.

Thanks Diane

Boks little chat room is getting rather crowded.

And, some of us have browsers that won't allow us into Bok's chat room :-(
