y2k will be spun no problem until the lights go out then they will realize it's real

Was over by a dominoes in So CA that was having nbc news doing a segment PR y2k op ed piece. Instead of looking at the national Guard armories getting locked down and ready to roll they were making a happy face pr news sound bit that you will still be able to get pizza at midnite. Makes me want to puke. If y2k downs this nation hard , the Media will be just as responisible as the govt in this charade , and should be held accountable by those who will be left in the aftermath. Our famlies are at tremendous y2k risk and they are as blind and ignorant as can be. What about San Onfre NBC, what about BIO engineering facilities and chem plants etc, thats the story to watch. Not the pilsbury dough boy. I have to remember that I am a Christian so I dont let it upset me to greatly.

Well, the Red Cross will be relieved, since they plan to get fast food or order out for the shelters.

BTW, Co-worker who lives in Newport News VA said the Red Cross called her I think last Wednesday and asked her and her ex-husband if they would open/sponsor a shelter for our area. She said she and her ex are their DAP? team reps for the area, whatever that means...implied she is kinda higher up.

She didn't see any point in organizing a shelter for our area, and told them so. She is a total DGI, and certainly the Red Cross call didn't change her opinion. I on the other hand felt overwhelmed -- "It's a week away, how could you get food, blah blah blah in time?" - - She said they would just order out, or let the Red Cross "higher ups" worry about it.

She was literally blown away when I hit on some of the basics as far as short term impact. Red Cross never told her anything. Apparently in "their book" she was competent to decide whether my area would need any resources from the Red Cross. Go figure.

Only is there are deliveries coming in....And that depends on if the supplier can get the stock to send to the pizza parlor. And that depends on if the dairy is operating, and the meat packers, etc. And it really all depends on if the truckers have diesel to bring it all together. Oh, yeh, I almost forgot, it takes electricity and gas to cook the pizza. Yeh, it's mind boggling at what it takes to make a pizza from oven to table.

Yep, if Pizza Hut is delivering then there won't be too much of a need for a shelter in my area. But if power goes out, then no pizza hut, and lots of folks lookin for a warm bed, with food and water. Seems like common sense to us, but apparently not common sense for my area DAP Red Cross representative.

Anyway, she plans to spend New Years in Baltimore, and doesn't wanna change her plans for "hype". I gladly filled her in on the Lord report. Boy was she floored.

I had a taste of what it was like to live without the supermarket last week. Put off my shopping till too late on X-Mas eve and everything closed. I knew that I had plenty sitting in the pantry, but the hubby was hankering for a roast anyway! Ah well, I guess we better get used to the feeling...
